THE CITY. latiraroarAi - CITY- Maws, inasi PAGE.] AREBBOOBN BETWEEN PON REPUBLICAN AND PEOPLE'II PARTIEB.—Tneday evening was 'the commieneement of. a new epoch in:the political his dory of" Philadelphia. The contending struggle be -Stress the members of the Republican and People's rrWas ?unimated and interesting in many of iltrda. In pursuance of Unwell of the Bacon ' itve eimunittee, the Republican - petty - met in the -different wards, end , selected three .delegates to hie* * convention this evening,; at the County Court Roux, for the purpose of junking rules for • their government. - In the Eighteenth ward, which tan heretofore been strongly: Peopli, after ii . saloso Contested struggle, the People'l organization watt adstaishid, or submerged into a RepOlioan. The isms result was arrived at -in many - of the lower • wards_ In the Seventeenth the contest narrowed ,',down to the native andmituralised elements of the ople's party, the latter being successful in effect , leg Republican organization. The tett required for soffrfte was a pledge to maintain the Revd:di ' emu nominees, when fairly and honorably made, and a loyal support to the Administration in prose tenting the present war. The Execiative Committee, we understand, re quested the residents of the different wards not to "elect any ollorboldere as delegates, deeming that the harmearof the new organisation would be bet ter reser-re:A lielooting from oitisens at large. This request, however, was not complied with in moor of :the wards, •'but as• a general rule - was ....obeyed. The People's - party, on the other hand, was desirous of allowing the elements opposed to • 3itesnocraey to remain es heretofore in otagu quo; err; in case of- a change, they considered the State Ventral Committee the proper body to suggest and 'organise any reforms. As neutrals, we have not" learned that either of these political belligerents Lave made public their future plans, but we have tin doubt that the actions of both will be looked for With interest by all movers on the great political Chess board. THE CONCERT OP THE SEASON.—Tho pa tronage expected to be bestowed upon Mr. Hassler's Concert, at the Musical Fund Hall, this evening, wo predict, will not bo regretted by any of our lady or gen tlemen amateurs or music-loving audience. Our public always patronize well any [unglue' entertainment of merit; ouch is this Concert, and should draw, as we hear it will, a splendid house. It world be no more thou deserving. If we patronize such Concerts it will encou rage our good artists, with the help of the public, to de throne, by degrees, many trashy entertainments in our midst. This evening's programme needs but a glance to show its true value, and the performance, we hope, will be a credit to the giver of the Concert, the artists who co kindly assist him, and to an appreciative Philadelphia audience. The weather may not be go good as we wish, but thgexcellent medium, our city passenger cars, will leave no excuse on this point. • SnPidniOri runrst.-111r.' C.
