JAMES CRAMOND. FOREIGN Intelligence. By the Ship Richacoud, Capt- Lev, in 32 Days from Brtjiol. From itJf OftSEREE R.» LONDON, May 3. Burning oj the EGIIX'E Man of War. At 11 o'clock on Fi d:iy morning, a fire broke out on board his majesty's ship Boyne, of 98 guns, which continued with irrefiltibJe violence 'till five o'clock, when the magazine blew up. The cause of this melancholy accident has not yet been clearly alcertain ;d. The lire was firft tliicovered in the after part of the ship, and is to have proceeded from cither a live cartridge trom the muskets of tlie soldiers, who were exercising with finall arms on the windward fide of the ship. having lodg ed in the captain** or admiral's < abin, and caught fomethmg combultible, or from the funuelof the admiral's cabin luving been ob fire, and communicated to the deck* The flam js burst through the poop before the fire was discovered. FortunJtelv, the greateil part of the powd r had been H'r<t v op i'nortf three days ago, and, upon the firft a larm, the cock was turned upon the grand magazine. Th. fore and aft hanging lAag&fcinrtr contained but very little powder ; the ormer exploded \>ith very .little effect. When the fire broke QUt there was a frefh breeze at S. V/. and, it being tide of ebb, the 'hips were ridu.g with their ft cms to the Wiiii. Within half an hour at er the com mencement of the fire, the tops and all the rigging were in a tylaze. » About twfive {he tide turned, and the po sition of the became changed, but it wa» then too kte to m ike any attempt, or even for boats to get near her. Previous to this how vcr, from the number of boats that went in stantly to their afiiftuuee, it is hoped that most of the cr w were laved, though, from the rapidity of the flames, it »s ieajudthat some mud have perished. All her guns were loaded, and as they be came heated, they went off, the fliot falling amongst the {hipping, and some of them ev en reached the shore, but without, it is hop ed, having done any damage. It was upwards of two hours from the fir it discharge 'till all the guns had gone off. Ab©ut two her cable® were burnt, and she went adrift, the fire blazing through every port hole. The fight, r » though at noon day, was awfully grand. The ships to leeward of her, ran down to St. He len's, and she drifted slowly to the Eastward, . her mizen mast and topmasts having fallen down before fhebegan to drift. About 5 o*c!cek the wrcck was drifted by the tide further on the Spit, dppofite South iiea CafUe, when the magazine blew up with a very great explosion, This noble ship, which was only five year# old, was compleatly manned and vi<stuailed: there were alio a vast number of women and children on board, many of whom, horrid to relate, must have perilhed. The men ed overboard, and were moflly taken up by es boats belonging; to the fleet, which had all been maniied on the firft alarm, and ordered to render every assistance, The Port admir al, fir Peter Parker, at the fame tiaie, went on board the Royal William, and made the - signal for all the fleet lixlujitly to get under le weigh. The wind was very unfavorable, but the orders were executed with so judg r- ment and alacrity, that all the other Ihipsgotr iy out of her way, and very fortunately being in the day time, dropped down to St. Helen's without any of them receiving the smallest damage. The explosion was tremendous ancf grand. Shot, and pieces of timber were thrown to a confiderabfe distance all around her, and a column of lmoke arose in the air', that form r ed itfelf into the most sublime and pi&urefque f" appearance. It is melancholy to add, that as several boats were near the wreck at that mo ment , >t is the general apprehension that some — of them must have been funk. We are sorry to find the account of the ldfs of the Ulultrious, of 74 guns, is con nj firmed. She was driven ashore in a gale of wind, near Avenza. The crew and -p (lores are however saved. Admiralty Office, April 28. v Extract of a Letter from Captain Sir J. B. Warren, Bart, of bis majejly sJbip La Potnone t dated iff Falmouth, April 24, 1795, to Evan & Nepean, Esq. - * es Until the 15th instant nothing material occurred,; when a fail having been discover ed in E. the Isle de Rhe bearing E. N.„E. five leagaes, I made the signal for a general chafe, and at half past eight, A. M. the Artois brought her too. Slie proved to to be Le Jean Bart ship, corvette, of 26 guns e j. and 187 men. :he t^ie having seen several fail ahead, tly gave chafe with the squadron, and at four, P» L j ie M. Belleifle bearing N. eight leagues f or came up with the rear of a convoy. A cor vette J>rig, palling us t«» leeward, exchanged lV€ a few shot. which carried_away her , on fails. Finding it impracticable to pursue her, j OC j she failing close on Ihore, I stood.aster the reft, , tte and at five, P. M. brought to a ship and a brig, which, being in baliaft, were fat oil ltl y fire. The Galatea also, after exchanging a _jj, few shot, brought to a ship-corvette a-head, id- which proved to be L'Expedition, of ers and Ito men, formerly a packet in our fer vice . The Artois alio captured two lloops laden with 1 he reft of the convoy, with a the frigate, standing in between the locks, for ent Hedie and Quiberon bay, escaped. t0 Extru£i of a Letter from the Jam:, JaLd April In addition to the lift of velTels taken and destroyed by the under my com- m-ind, Capt.
