Meeting oi thr State Teachers Associa tion—Second Day—Horning Session.— The Association was opened by an appropriate pray er by Rot. Ormond, of Birmingham. The minutes of yesterday’s proceedings were read and adopted. Rev. Nathan Bodge, of Lancaster, Pa., read a report on the Development of the Religions Fac ulties, The report was replete with great and important moral truthß, aad was delivered la a dear and forolble manner. Kev. Mr. D. ie prin cipal of Mt. Joy Female Seminary, and is one of the warmest friends of general education in the State. At the ooncluaion of the reading of the re port Mr. James R. Challen, a teacher in the Somerset Collegiate loetitnte, made a few re marks. He coincided with all the speaker bad Bajd and only regretted that he had not gone BtiU further. He would grant to the Bible all its friends claimed for It and believed that its teachings were of the eublimest nature: yet ho contended that a teacher oould use the natural oeourrenoea of the day, in inculcating in the minds of jhe pupils a spirit of love and Chris tianity which would go with them through life ; and that every teacher was bound to take advan tage of the most trifling ciroumstanco which oc curred around him to inonlcate on tbo minds of biß eoholars religions and moral truths. The next in order was the report of A. M. Gow, of Washington, Pa., on Sohool Discipline. The report was lengthy, and though somewhat opposed to the onward strides of V onng Ameri ca, was an able document. The Association visited the House of Refuge in the afternoon, and consequently there was no afternoon session. EVENIEG BH9SIOH, The Association convened at 7 J o’olook. When eome preliminary business had been gone through with, the President annonnoed the busineßß in order. Prof. Stoddard, of Wayne county, read an es say upon “the Development of tho Intellect.” It was, on motion, received. Prof. Walker, of Boston, made some interest ing remarks on tho importance of “Eloontion” in schools. After ho had concluded, the Association ad journed. OBDEB OF EXEBCISES FOE THCBSDAY. CnuBCH FOB WEST EBIt PenBSTLYAHIA. —Proposed Division of the Diocese. —A Convocation of the Protestant Epis- copal Chntoh for. Western Pennsylvania met yes terday at St. Andrew’s Chnreh. It was composed of upwards of twenty clergymen, among whom we reoognUod Messrs. Ljmjn, Van Deueen, Crumpton, Quick, Paddook, Smith, Randall, Hodges, Mollhenny, Laud, Williamson and Tay lor. Besides those, there were an equal number of laity, among whom were Judge Hepburn, of Pittsburgh ; Prof. Lee, of Washington College ; and Koons, Esq., of Weßtmoreland oounty. •The origin of the present Convocation appears to be this : The members of the Church in West ern Pennsylvania do not receive the Episoopal visitations they consider requisite and necessary, in consequence of Bißhop Potter s ill health and the extent of the diooese; they therefore peti tioned the last Convention on the subject. It appointed a committee to take the matter into consideration; and for the purpose of getting at the general eentiment of Churchmen in different quarters, the committee called together the present Convocation. r It id proposed to remedy the matter in either one or the otbor of the two following ways, viz: let. Either by a division of the Diocese, and the eleotion of another Bishop ; or, 2d. By the eleotion of an Assistant Bishop, whose place of residence will be Pittsburgh. In the debate yesterday, which was participa ted in by tho olergy generally, and by Messrs. Hepburn, Koons and Lee, of the laity, these different views were urged with much zeal. Borne considered that the Diooesa was not in a peonoiary condition to afford a division; while, on the other band, gentlemen were equally oer tain that that objection would be easily got Tho Convocation meets this morning at S' o’clock—services and sermon at 101 o'clock. Bbrolabious Drpbsdatioss is Clarion -vr.—Clarion oounty appears to be infested Com,. ~»a!ar band of robbers, who have been with a rt 0 -ndry stores, private dwellings, &0., planderingsu. Boon in goods, and tbs latter of $- ■—v were robbed after different houses in the oonm.. to two of amounts in cssh varying from o- - these hundred dollars. Notwithstanding all -4, robberies and burglaries have beou commltu. heretofore no trace has been left by whtoh to disoover the perpetrators. On Taesday. the 24th ult., S 3 we learn by a letter in the Demo crat of that oounty, a eearoh was instituted, whioh resulted in the dieoovery of near two hun dred dollars worth of goods which were stolen from the store of Wolf Adams in Callensburg, and a store kept at Milleretown by Lot Gardner, belonging to Mr. Khan, of Reimersburg. These goods weae found on the premises of four d.ffer ent individuals, to wit: Wm. H. Rupert, Isaiah Glass James Stitt and Oliver Greeno. Glf3s was oommitted and Rupert gave bail to appear at September term—Stitt and Greeno are run ning at large but oame near being taken. Fur ther soarob is being made, a strong guard kept, and it is confidently hoped that the gang will be totally routed, if not all brought to jnstloe. It ie generally believed that the leaders of this band havo not yet been discovered. Attempted Suicide. —A msn‘named Kearns, residing on Morgan street, Allegheny, attempted to commit suioide on Tuesday, by outting his throat in two different places with a penknife. He was a foreman in the foundry of Haigh, Hartnnee. & Co. The wound is not considered fatal unless something untoward should tutu up.
