Baumgarten & Heine, of Hamburg, the manufacturers, was inserted. This morning I observed in several of the daily papers a u notice,' signed by Prof. R., in which he states that I was unauthorised to make Use of it, and that it was incorrectly stated and applied. In reply—l presumed that if be bad written the letter, he, of course, meant what was therein contained, and con sequently required no authority from him to make the same public. As regards the assertion as to its Incorrect ness, I have the letter In my possession, anti it speaks fot Itself, word for word as I have published. Messrs. Baum garten & Heins are not dependant upon Mr. Rohl:took for endotsement—their Pianos were known, appreciated and received the highest rommendaUons from the first artiste, long before Prot R. saw lit to pass an opinion upon them. My reason for publishing the extract was in the fact that he seas well known in the city, and not be ease hie recom. mendation was necessary to establish the merit of the Pianos. In conclusign, 1 may add that they stand on their own merit, and are endorsed by such men as List, Thalberg, and others, solely on account of their merit. mh23 CHARLOTTE BLUME. 1 an advertisement of Mrs. Blume, in with paper, my newt) is made use of in connection with the Hamburg Stenos. C. from Col. Kinney TO THE PUBLIC. The attention which has been. bestowed upon our expedition to Nicaragua by the American press leads us to believe that the public) mind has become interested in its character and pur poses. Great results are confidently looked for from the prosecution of our plans, and a great principle of constitutional right is therein invol ved. I feel warranted, therefore, in behalf of my associates and Myself, in addressing to the public this brief card ea an earnest that we are - not indifferent to the consideration expressed for our undertaking and the sympathy so generally bestowed. The late news' from Nicaragua is of such a character as to make our presence in that-State at once necessiary for the management of our affairs. The revolution still continues without abatement, and our private advicee assure us that the property of absentees is in danger. At this moment, when future success of our busi ness seems to depend on the promptitude of our movements, we fiod the Government of the Uni ted States blockading our ship with three war steamersand a revenue vessel. Oqr departure by.the steamship we have have Chartered being thus prevented.by a strong naval force, wahave been compelled at great pecuniary sacrifice - and personal incouvence to seek other means of trans port. We invite our friends to follow by -the first conveyances to Nicaragua. The above high-handed rueaeuro to opress pri vate citizens in the pursuit of lawful business has been undertaken by a most extraordinary colation, that of the Government of the United States, and the Accessary Transit Company of Nicaragua. The tate party 10 the alliance is a rival of ours in the project of sending settlers toiNioaragua. They to whom the trust of administering tempo rarily the affairs of this, nation is confided, have presumed to interpose the strong arm of the Navy to place a check upon lawful commerce, when no public) exigency demanded it, and no public interest was in danger, but merely to pro tect one class of its citizens to ruin another. We do not desire, however at this time, to in dulge in useless elimination or rout out com plaints into the public ear. It is because the great constitutional right of expatriation has been invaded, and because we have been unable to obtain either a hearing 'in our Courts of law, or .response to our 'demands upon the Govern ment for a cessation of these prosecutions, that we adrese ourselves to the Aa3erican people. The charge - we herein make we have abundant evidence to substantiate by proof when the day arrives. Until then we ask that the verdict in our case may be deferred.' Our best defence against the accusations of our enemies will bo our future deeds in the land of our adoption. We claim the right to plant amidst the wilds of Nicaragua, upon -our own legally acquired property, the school-house and the church, to live there as become orderly, industrious and law-abidibg citizens, to encourage agriculture, establish commerce and cultivate the arts which embellish life. In so doing, we violate no• law, either:human or divine. And if, in-the full ness of time, political changes should occur, if a respectable, responsible and permanent Gov ernment should be established, where anarchy now reigns, if -the unhappy wars that now deso late the land should give plow= to peaceful labor, and the State rise again, petrified by her trials, and prepared for the place , destined by,the God of Nations for her;' we ctiafl still tie ready to hoar the verdict .pronounted 'rixtictrt edterprise. For that verdict we shall not apipeal tolthe Gov ernment, but to the sovereignty of that public sentiment before which the Government itself must bout. H. L. KINNEY. NEW Yorur, Juno 6, 1855. ==l An Abolitionist Charted and Drowned. We learn that within a week past there has been some excitement in Garrard county conse quent upon an affair in which an abolitionist was involved. During the present year some three Degrees have been run off from Jessatelme coun ty. Last week evidence was obtained-that a Mr. Pullam, of Garrard, had an agency in the Cin cinnati transaction. Accordingly a warrant was issued by a magistrate of Bryantsvillo for tho arrest of Pullain. The constable, assiated by four or five gentlemen, went to the field where he was working and arrested him. They then started to return, but after progressing - A, short distance the prisoner broke away. He ,outran the officer and his posSe ; and the constoble see iog his prize about to escape, fired a pistol, hit ting him in the back. Be instantly fell scream ing with pain, but just as the pursuing party came up he arose and fled towards the Kentucky river. Coming to a high cliff he fell first about seven feet, then ten, and finally over a precipice thirty feet high, making the fall altogether of forty-seven feet. Pullum seemed endowed with more than mortal* vigor, and arising .plunged into the Kentucky river. Nothing has been seen or heard of him since, and preparations were being made to drag the river, as it is presumed that he was drowned. Whatever may have been the guilt of the poor fellow, certainly he merit ed by reason of his exhibit of spirit, a - more for tunate end. [From the Philadelphia North Amerlein.,lsth.] Launch of a United States Fildeite The United States steam frigate Merrimac, one of the aim. new war vessels ordered by act of Congress to be built, was launched at the Navy Yard, Charlestown, Mass., yesterday afternoon, being the first of the six completed. The keel of the ship was laid in July of last year; She is built in the strongest manner, chiefly of live oak timber and plank, and there have been _tiled in her bull 226,730 pounds of iron, and 189,778 pounds of belt copper. Her dimeneione aro 3,800 tons, carpenters' measurement. She' is to be propelled on_the screw principle, with Grit flth's English patent propeller, having two blades of 17 feet diameter. Her engine, it is supposed, will be of 800 horse power. Notwithstanding her means of steam propulsion she Will have ample provision for sails. Her mainmast - will measure above the spar-deck 86 feet 0-inches; length of meet head 19 . feet 8 inches, top.mast 68 feet, mast-head 10 feet 10 inch e, main top gallant-mast 84 feet, royal-mast 23 feet. RECFPE FOR FLOATING. —Any human being who well have the presence of mind to clasp the hands behind the back, and turn the face toward the zenith, may float at ease.and in perfect safe ty in tolerably still water—aye, and sleep th6re, no matter how long. So says somebody to the public ; whereupon the Buffalo Republic says "We were ass onough to try that on once. We turned our face toward the zenith and clasped our hand behind our tack, bathe - We/a had at tained a good view of the aforesaillenith, we had gone down gurgling to, the botteim;•like, a broken jug, and in about two minutes weivero being held up by Our heels to alow some at pints of lake water to leak off from our ovar charged stomach." BAJANCE OF POWER BETWEEN 213 E SEXES.-Th o number of females born is always greater than the males, by about four per cent. At twen ty years of age this preponderence is entirely lost, and these aro more females than'males. At foity the balance is again the other way, and there are more males than females. At seventy the ages are about even. Beyond the ago Of forty years the probabilities of longevity ire much greater for. American scomen.than that of men. There are now four hundred and' thirty American woman in tho United States above-ona hundred years of age.
