Messrs Haunt garben & Urine are not dependant upon Mr. Ilohbock for endorsement—their Pianos were known, ape related and received the highest rommondations from the tirst artists, long before Prof. It. saw tit to pass an opinion upon them. My reason for publishing the extract was in the fret the' he was well known In the City, and not he ause his rococo. mendation'uus necoaaary to establish the merit of the Pianos. MONDAY MORNINd:: Lucy Stone Married.-Novel Marriage A marriage was solemnized at a farm-house in West Bloomfield, in Massachusets, on the first of this month, which- presented • some- features without a precedent, we believe, in this or-any other country. The-bride was Miss Lae % Stone, a distinguished champion of the disputed rights of negroes and women. The groom was Henry B. Blackwell, Rig., who is likewise an active apostle of the same sect. Sympathy of opinions begat sympathy of sentiment, and finally, from being twain they would become one flesh. But how do this without betraying the great princi pies of freedom to which both stood _ pledged be fore the public was the question: TO get the laws altered so as to equalize their rights and duties in the married relation was difficult, if not impossible, afitt would involve a delay, to which the fervency of their passion could notbe recon ciled. They finally hit upon an expedient which they conaluded would secure their rights and their anticipated matrimonial bliss at the same time. What that expedient was is thus desoribed by the Rev. T. W: Higginson, of -Worcester, Mass , who officiated an theoccaSion, in a com munication to the Worcester Spy:.;, "It was my privilege to celebrate May Day by officiating at a wedding, in a farm house among the hills of West Brookfield. The bride groom was a man of tried• worth, a leader in the western anti•elavery movement ; and the bride was one whose fair fame is known throughout the nation—whose rare intellectual quilities are excelled only by the private beauty of her heart and life. I never perform the marriage cere mony without a renewed sense of the iniquity of . - our present system of laws, in respect to mar riage—a system by which man and wife are one,' and that one is the husband. It was with my hearty concurrence, therefore, that the fol lowing protest was road and signed, as part of the nuptial ceremony, and I send it to you, that others may be induced to do likewise. - While we acknowledge our mutual affection, by publicly assuming the sacred relationship of husband and wife, yet in justice- to ourselves and a'great principle, we deem it a duty to de clare that this act on our part iMplies'no sane tion,of, nor promise of voluntary obedience to, snob of the present laws of marriage, as refuse to recognize the wife as an independent rational being, while they confer upon the husband an injurious and unnatural superiority, investing him with legal powers which no honorable man would exercise, and which no man should pos sess. We protesteepeeially against the laws which give to the husband— I.' The cuptody of his wife's person. 2. The exelasive control and gnarditinship of heir children. • 3. The solo ownership of her personal, and use of her real estate, unless previously settled upon her, or placed in the hands'of trustees, as in the case of minors, lunatics and idiots. 4. The absolute right to the prodnot of indus try. 5. Also against laws which give to the widow er so muoh larger and more permanent an in terest in the property of his deceased wife, than they give to the widow in that of her deceased husband. 6. Finally, against the Whole system by which " the legal eiistence of the wife is 'suspended during marriage," so that in most States she neither has a legal part in the choicif of her residence, nor can she make a will, no sue or be sued in her own name, nor inherit property. We believe that personal independence and equal human-rights can •never be. forfeited, ex cept for crime ; that marriage should be an equal and permanent partnership, and so recog nized by law ; that until it is so recognized, mar ried partners should provide against the••radical injustice of Present laws, by ovary means in their power. We believe that where domestic .difficulties arise, no appeal should be made to legal tribu nals under existing laws, but that all difficulties should be submitted to the equitable adjastment of arbitrators mutually chosen. Thus, reverencing law, we enter our earnest protest against rules and customs which are un worthy of that name, since they violate justice, the essence of all law. (Signed,) BEERY B. BLACKWELL. LUCY STONE. The unusual precautions taken by the subscri ber to this protest, not to be cheated in the bar gain they have just made,' doubtless have their origin in an acquaintance with each other's char acter and propensities, which the public does not possess. It is not safe therefore, for a stranger to venture a criticism upon them. Bat there is one omission to which we may venture to allnde, and which we can hardly account for, except upon the supposition that their expecta tions from the future are nacre limited than young- persons commonly entertain when enter ing into the marriage relation. There is no pro vision that Mr. Blackwell shalt make his share of the baby clothes.
