It appears by tbo foregoing, that the Bank gentry in New York nro tbo “ wounded pigeons ” in tho tbo Bronson affair, and that they are deep ly concerned in denouncing tbo Notional Admin" -istrafion in general, and Mr, Secretary Guthrie ia particular. Such things have happened there before, and we recollect that once .npon a timo, when Gen. Jackson directed his Secretary of tho Treasury 1o remove the V. S. Deposits from the United States Bank, the Bankers, Brokers and Mer chants of New York held indignation meetings and denounced in unmeasured terms the Presi dent—“ Old Hickory"—and hie Secretary of the Treasury, for taking tho public money out of their hands. And, if we mißtake not, a certain James Watson Webb, then and now Urn editor of the Enquirer, and the organ of tho Wall street Brokers, publioly denounced Old Hiokory, and threatened to march et the bead of 10,000 Brokers and Merchants to Washington City, and t" drive old Hickory out of tho Capitol at the point of tho bayonet. We never heard that those valiant knights at tempted to carry tho threat into execution. If they had, however, there is no doubt Old Hickory would have given them a warm re oeption. If Secretary Gnthr e bod only unloosed tl b strings of the Public Treasury, »ml allowed 0. I*. Lamar E«q , President of the Bonk of the Re public, and bis Wall street coadjutors, to deplete the Treasury of its large amount of gold and silver, which seems to be suoh ft relations re striction on Bank expansions in New York, we doubt whether wo should hate erer had the pleasure of knowing that there was suoh a per son ns G. P. Lamar Esq , in New York or else wherc. . We want the President and Secretary to hold on, as old Hickory did, to the purso strings, keep the publio moneys out of the hands of Bankers, Brokers and jobbers. Let ns hare no more Cor win loans to Brokers and stockjobbers for spec ulate purposes. The farmers, mechanics and moderate business men of tho country want the Administration to preserro things ne they are. The country is now prosperous boyoud prece dent. and this condition of things is mainly at tributnble to tho working of tho Treasury system established and put into oper ation by the Democratic party. If the Bank gentry and speculators at New York oan only succeed in forcing Secretory Guthrie to let them have tho pubfo money, they wilt soon inflate the Bank currency to euch an extent ns to bring about a revulsion in trade and commerce : then n Bank suspension and pros tration of Manufactures; and then, amidst the cry of Locofoco misrule, Protective Tariff, &e., &c , conrulsn tho nntion wtth on effort to resus citate the dead carcass of whtggery. Friiaa PhOfyj: According to promise wben|. [eft, I give you o line relative to my trip, the oonntry here, its politios, eto. _ I left Pittsburgh with, the extenßiTe capital of one dollar in my pocket, a stout heart, and a Arm determination to hare a tramp before visit ing the “ Smoky City ” again Mr. Roberts, Engineer of the road to Alliance, gave me a pass to that place and lack, which I handed to tho Condnotor for Crestline, who passed mo to Mans field on the strength of it,.but it would not an swer for Toledo. So I had to stop here and “kick for a job," which T was fortunate enough to obtain. The Ohio and Pennsylvania road is one of the smoothest and best railways ini the United States and there is less trouble and delay along it than anv other over which I have ever passed L-and they are not a few. The officers and conductors are attentive, intelligent and courteous to pas sengers. There seems to bo a largo amount of travel on this ronte at thiß time, as well as Mansfield ia the oounty seat of fli=hh>nd county, and contains about thirty-five hundred inhabitants. The village » located on a bill, from which a fine view of the surrounding country presents itself. There are three ratl roada intersecting at this point, which add much to the life and bnsiaess of the place. There are several factories hero in operation, and others in contemplation. A Pittsburgher is almost as tonished at the clean, white, and beautiful ap pear mco of the dwellings,—no coni smoke and dust to give them the dingy look to which ho is acoustomed in old Pitt. Tho railroads, however, may rob these oountry villages of eomo of tbeir lustre ore long, because coal can be shipped and sold in them for fuel cheaper than wood ; and in the natural course of things, will to a great ex tent enpersedo the use of the latter. Back to the south end of tho village is a beautiful Ceme tery, containing from eight to ten acres, in wbioh are many tsatefnl monuments and tombs, me grounds are well laid off, and improvements are processing rapidly therein. V The land in this section of Ohio is h i y, but nothing like our old Pennsylvania hills : it is what wo should designate ns •'roiling land There is scarcely any or it but what is mnoepil ble of cultivation. 1 have loon eomo splendid farms in this neighborhood. ,1 hove been told the crops in this part of Ohio have been ably good ibis year, as also an abundance of fruit. I-and rates on an average from to »><so per acre. The timber consists of beech, made, hickory, ohestnut, oak, ash, and black walnut. Tnere is very little iron ore or other minerals in this section. The sandstone rock is variegated with an almost vermllllon red. mixed in streaks about equal to Hie white, presenting rather a pleasing a- pearance. The all-absorbing topio with the poople of Richland county, since the election, seems to be the Air Line railroad to Cincinnati. A suffieisnt amount of money has been subscribed to secure the organixation of the company. So that the construction of the road may be set down as a fixed fact. ... Ohio cannot compote with PeirasylTanin m breeding horses. Tbeir horses arc quite inferior to ours. Indeed, 1 donbt very much if any State lo the Union can produce as good draught horses as Pennsylvania. If they can.'l have yet to learn of the fact. But Ohio outstrips ns far in horned cattle and swine. I think she Is richly entitled to the premium over ail the States in these matters. , Yon are aware, of course, that the Whigs re ceived such a complete drubbing in this county at the late election, that the editor of the Whig paper here seriously proposes ter drop the party name nod organization. Tho Wesleyan Methodists bare a branch or their book concern located here under the charge and soperintendanco of Rev E Smith, formerly of Pittsburgh, and with wbon yon are well ac quainted.if not personally, at least as the great Champion or anti-slavery. Ho publishes the Christian Statesman, and carrys on a booh ornce, in which I am at engaged. Yoa shall hear from mo again. Respect* to all the old typos. B * PttsoK Messchikqit. —The New York Coa- Tier la painting the character of Prince Men Rcbikoff, great-grand-son of Peter the Orgal, seventy years of age, end in commit 1 or the Russian army against Turkey. Wo qaote : ■■ He is of'mtddlo otatore, has close cot, milk white hair ; o high, open forehead ; sharply de fined features, and a bright, sparkling eye. llts mit is haughty, hot slightly limping, from a wound that he received in a singular manner at the siege of Varus, in IS2B. It is affirmed that onO erecting, having eome orders that ho wished to see implicitly obeyed, ho strolled through the camp ond a? bo was returning to his quarters, he stopped and remained with his legs stretched wide apart, while he enjoyed a pinch of enoff. Suddenly the report of a beayy gun was heard, snd the Prince fell headlong to the ground. When he was taken op. it was found that a eao non ball hail passed between his legs and wound ed him severely in the thigh. “Prince Menschikoff is one of the most ei tensire landed proprietors in the Empire, and counts his serfs by thousands ; hut unlike the generality of the Russian nobles, who throw away tbelr riches in reckless profusion, he adds daily to bis wealth. His economy is without a parallel, and indeed is stated to descend to par simony of the lowest grade. “ Another striking peculiarity of this remark able man is the aversion ho entertains for for eigners. Not one—even an ambassador—has ever been permitted to enter his palace. Nor is this repugnance confined to those who are stran gers in the strict sense of the word ; for several Finlanders of eminenoe. who had been acquaint ed with him when Governor Oeneral of that pro vince have been denied access to him when they happened to be casually at St Petersburg; the only favor accorded to them being the permis sion to take refreshments in the anto-chambers, with the upper servants of the house. “ He le both rough and fickle, and when any thing offends him, he beoomes absolutely brutal, it is not therefore to be wondered at that he has »o raaoy enemies- . j • « Mcosobikoff is married to tbo Princess Dol goroukl, by whom he has a eon and a d«ugh ,o I ter.” The Bixpekst Savings Bank. —U la stated that this has becomes one of the most flourishing banks in the city of New York, a fact sufficient to show the utility and practicability of the new institution. The nmount of sixpenny deposits have reached the surprising sum of $23,000, and they are still increasing, and will in a very few years make a respectable capital. Besides the smallness of deposits there Is still another great encouragement, that is. the six per oent. interest is paid on the juvenilo depositors’ accumulations. The Express is informed that these barefooted, ragged urchins, look forward to deposit day with great pleasure. It is undoubtedly a new way of reforming children, but Is a sure one, and will save many from poverty, idleness, and wasteful ness, and latterly from becoming a burden upon our city institutions. Reader, do you know what writing for newspaper* moans! ....... It means writing in haste, against the inclina tion, without opportunity for reflection, oorrco tion. or chance to get information. It means dressing for a ball in the dark ; painting a pic ture with a single brush for all colors; answer ing questions In science from memory, and questions of foot from imagination. It means attempting the impossible, and making fools be lioro you hare done it. Worse than that-worst of all, it moans writing quantity in place of quality, diluting flasks of flagrant with pails of tasteless water; pnßsing off hollow tubes for the I bars of solid metal, selling your soul to thedesil —the printer’s—for a mess of pottage ; eacntt oing future famo to present necessities —V- .V Revxcw. A Violin Attachment. —A ourious case camo hcfore the Supreme Court of New York, on Tuesday, wherein Ole Bull's fiddle—his favorite Addle appears in all the vulgar prose of attach ment for debt. The superintendent of the hole at Olenn mado complaint that $403 were still due him, and got out an attachment for snob uronerty as he oould find. Motion was made to have tho attachment sot aside, on the ground that the fiddle was exempt from execution. Ihe judge refused the motion, and tho fiddle BtiU re mains in custody. Thb Case or Capt.
