That there were frauds practiced in the nomi nation of Mr. Biddle, we have not it doubt, and we are confident that the friends of Mr. Sawyer can prove this fact. The battle-field presents, always, scenes which appeal to the tenderest sympathies ofpnr, nature. After the battle of the Great Horse Shoe, In which nearly* thousand Intruins were kftled, and two hundred aid fifty prisoners were taken, all women and children, the men having been exterminated, the following incident occurred: " The grim 'General, who presided over this bloody scene, which ;Seem= to carry us back to the early Indian wars of New England, had still • tender spot_ In his heart. Moved by the wail of an Indian infant, picked up from the field, whose mother had perished during the' battle, Jackson strove to induce some nursing women among the prisoners to suckle it. Its mother Is dead,' was the cold answer, let the child die, too.' The General, himself a cluldleia man, then turned nurse blunt:tit. Some brown' anger fanned a part of his private stores, one with this he caused the child to be fed. lie even took it home with him, and reared it up in his own family. Confessions of the Murderers of Gardner and Mailer. Mama. Gardner and Smith, of this city, re. ceived a letter yesterday from John Gardner, who has been engaged for several weeks in fer reting out the murderers of Mesas. Gardner and Miller. The letter was written at Moores Hill, Ind., and states, that Robert Kelley had been arrested on the charge of participating In the murder. Shortly after his arrest he made a full confession of the crime of which he and his brothers stand charged. Prom Kelley's statement it appears that the boat laid up the afternoon previous to the mur der, and two of the hands, .George" and “Ken tuck," went ashore to hunt, and not returning in the evening, they shoved off, and left them.— While Alexander Gardner and James Millerwere asleep in bed, and Mr. Holt was asleep before the stave, and Robert - Kelley asleep below, Mo ses Kelley came down and awakened him, and they two murdered the other three. He don't know how much money was got by the trainee eon. Moses gave him three dollars to pay his way home. The Kelley's and others had agreed to rob boats on the river this winter ; bitt before they got ehipped, the hewife of one of the party woe taken sick, and was compelled to leave, which frustrated their plans for a time.' . "The above was the first opportunity they had of rob bing a boat, and they embraced it. A portion of the property stolen has been recovered. Passengers that got on thti Rein deer at Memphis report the loss of 80 lives by the disaster, but the mate of the boat asserted that but 14 were lost, all deck passengere. The boat and cargo was a total loss; the river for miles and miles was full of the cargo, and the people all along shore were reaping a harvest in fishing it out of the river. The Reindeer had on board a man who was on the boat and lost three children. Re resides at Paducah. We are informed that the collision was caused by the pilots misunderstanding the signals of each other. The loss of life ems occasioned by the fear of passengers on deck, who would not go to the bow of the boat to get on the other boat, because she rocked about too much, and they remained on the deck and were drowned.- Louisville Courier.
