Although setae of your Board have seen said tumipßj' whUe.gcdwmg, it may not he out of place to describe the nature of the soil and sub soil-on which they were produced, together with the thhnn'er of cultivaiton, &c. In the spring. of. ,1850, this ground was Ifgh tly jtnanored with yard .manure in the drill, and sown with peas. -,ln - the spring of 1851,;. if was again shyAify mandred in the drill for potatoes, whioh were dag for market, in Jnly lost The ground was then ploughed up Veagiy, and drawn, off in drills, about two £eet wlde--then harrowed down with a; common two-horse harrow, which par tially levelled down the drills, and caused the clods to fall into the hollow* between the drills, makihglhe top smooth and fine. Then the seed was sown pretty * thickly, on the top. After it was well np, the ground between the drills was cleaihsedl with .a .common cultivator, or drill har row,* hnfthnplants were not meddled with, un fil they * were. kbout thi.ee , inches high. Then they'were thinned oat, to .about six inches apart in the rows, with* a narrow, hoe, not allowing them tu be touched by the fingers at all. SomeSmay think this a troublesome way of raising -turnips, but it is the only manner in which ever raise any thing like a good crop. .These facts I lay before yon, And remain, gentlemen, .
