Capture of the Forger Addison Azcr. The notorious forger Addison Azer, who forg ed is check of five thousand dollars in the name of Jacob Sing vaster, of Stroudsburg, on the First National Bank of Allentown, about two years since, and who made his escape from the old county jail, has at last been captured. The efficient and indefatigable detective got on the scent of Axer ‘ sind followed bins to Wisconsin, but lost the scamp and came to the East with out Lim. When the officer left Wisconsin he gave authority to the officers of that State to give him, as soon as Azer was heard from, im mediate intelligence. This he received last week, and instantly "went for" the culprit. Thomas B. Metzger, District Attorney, had a telegraphic dispatch from Detective Johnson, Wednesday, to the effect that the "man he wanted" he had safely enough, and that Le would be in Allentown to-day. There is pro bably no more expert forger in the State of Pcnnsylvanna. Broome County Items from the Leader We are Informed that a man named James Ringrose, living at Warren, Susquehanna Coun ty, about eighteen miles from this city, was kill ed last Saturday, while assisting in felling trees. A number of men were engaged in clearing a forest, and one of the trees fell on Mr. Ringrose, killing him. His funeral was attended last Sun day by a large circle of friends. He was a gen tleman highly respected in that vicinity, and leaves a young wile to mourn his sudden tak ing off. —We learn that Rev. Father O'Reilly, the veteran Catholic priest of this section, and who is at present located at Susquehanna Depot, Pa., while walking down the steep hill from the Convent in that place, slipped down, and sprained his ankle and broke one small hone in his leg, just above the ankle. With his well known perseverance and indomitable will, he determined to continue his walk home without aid, but found himself unable, and allowed him self carried home. We are pleased to learn be is in very comfortable condition, and is not confined to his bed. —The Broome County Fair was a failure The crowd was small; the display of vegetables, implements, etc., was meagre; and very little go‘xl cattle was exhibited. Instead of proving a benefit to our agricultural and mechanical in terists, we believe it proved injurious. We hope the management of our County Fairs will be transferred to the hands of efficient men who will take an interest in making them suc cessful The ten tulle walk of Weston, against time, was the only feature of the Fair, worthy of mention. lie made the ten miles in one hour, fifty-six and a half minutes. He made the first and last half mile in six minutes. ❑e made his first mile in 11 1-2 minutes, and the tenth in 111-4 minutes. The fastest time he Made in walking half n mile was the third time around the track, making it in 4 1-2 minutes. The fastest mile time, was on the second mile, making it in 10 1-2 minutes. lie walked the fifteenth, half mile around the track backs ard, in 9 3-1 minutes. The spectators were few, and displayed but little interest We understand the distribution of premiums was very unsatis factory, being given in most cases, regardless of merit. P. W. Hopkins, Esq., delivered the addrabs. We inquired of a listener what the subject was and he stated t ha the was talking about "asthma" while he was present. Explosion of Powder Mill. The powder works of the Lafflin & Hand's Powder Company, of which Mr. Asa Smith, of Wilding, is President, situated about 3 miles sloth Of Pottsville, exploded on Saturday of last w,ek, at noon, degtroynig several buildings behnming to the works and instantly killing two men who were engaged in the packing h0u....e. Their bodies went picked up in small pieces. The amount of powder exploded A . e'LS about 700 kegs, and the shock was heard for 111 mils. REAPING AND 'IIOWICIO MACH:EMS The Committee reported as follows The Meadw King Mower, manufactured by Gregg, Pyfer & Co., Trumansburg, N. Y., and exhibited by A. H. Gregg. Ithaca, N. Y., de serving of especial mention, it being very sim ple and evidently very durable and strong, it being composed almost entirety of iron and steel. Tne novel device by which the cutter bar is raised from a horizontal position, allowing the knives and the pitman remain in the same line, and always run with equal ease at any angle, ii certainly a novel and valuable improvement in mowing machines. The wan ner also of getting the side draft is a good fea ture. Th e C om mitte e Water report :that most of the mowers on exhibition were firm clam, but there being no opportunity to test them, as re quired by the regulations of the society, they could not prove the test upen actual trial, and only what seemed a 'decided improvement was notied.
