First, we will give you some idea as to the cost of carpeting. As we do not know ( the size of the rooms, we cannot estimate the entire value, but must confine our state inonts to the price per yard. Ingrain can be had for $1 and (1.35, but a good article one that will wear well is valued at $1.45 and $1.50 per yard. Three-ply ran ges in price from $1.00 to $17.) yer yard, aud is really the most durable carpet one can invest in. It is not only strong and substantial, but can be used on both sides, which good quality can abo be attributed to the ingrain, while tapostry or Brussols can be worn only on the one side. In Brussels carpeting we find two kinds English body Brussels and tapestry. The difference- between the two is con siderable, both in texturo and price. The tapoBtry Brussels comes in just as desirable colors and patterns as the other, but the threads or loops are not fastened on the un der side. This carpet can be distinguished by taking a piece of the carpet and pulling one of the threads, when the loopB will come out just like knitting or crotchet. If carefully used, ono of these carpets will wear well ; but rough sweeping, and boots or shoes with tacks in them, will soon cover the floor with strings of different colors. The price per yard is from $1.50 to $1.75 varrying according to quality, colors, and newness of pattern. The English body Brussels is higher priced and more substantial, although to the inexperienced it does not appear any better, or, in truth, different from tapestry. It is more desirable than the other for this reason: The loops are fastened on the un der side, and therefore cannot bo pulled out, either by drawing the threads or by pulling at the loops. $2 to $2.35 aro the regular prices asked for English body Brus sels, but sometimes the newest designs sell as high as $3.50, while those two or threo years old are sold for $1.75 per yard. Underneath the carpets, linings are now used, consisting of two thicknesses of stout brown paper with cotton between. These soften the floors, and make tho carpets wear better. You will have to pay about fifteen cents a yard for the best qualities. Cleaning Feathers. How shall we renovate old feathors, aud also clean old ticks ? : This inquiry I have soon in tho papers. My way is this: In Juno, when the weather portends a heavy bhower of rain, I lay the feather tick on the lawn or clean grass, and smooth it over evenly. One-half hour's heavy rain will clean one side of a badly soiled tick, unless there be greasy spots. In this case I take a pail of hot suds, pour it on the spot brush them, and let the rain rinse it out. I then turn it over and serve the other side the same. If the shower should be of short duration, I put the bed out in the next rain. To dry the bed, lay up the tick on slat work, clean rails, or something of the kind. If the ' feathers are much wet, so touch the better. When drying, shake up, beat with light rods, pick up lumps if there be any. When the bed is dry, the tick will be clean, and the feathers almost as good as new. Some of our beds have been used thirty years. I have lain them in the rain every Summer ; they are now clean aud good. It takes but a short time to dry the bed, but when it is dry to ap pearance, it is not at all fit to sloop on, but should be laid on an empty bedstead, a month or more ; with the windows up. This caution may be unnecessary, as no wise head sleeps on feathers in the Sum mer. Salt for Pear Trees. The result of ao experiment is thus re ported by a horticulturist: ; " Last spring I put a small shovelful of the refuse material from the salt works, which' Is composed, I believe, of salt, lime and , ashes, around four year, old pear tree. It has made a very thrifty growth, and the leaves are all free from blight or spot, and have a very glossy, healthy look; while others of 'the same lot, manured with barn-yard manure, y iiave grown but little, and the foliago is spotted and dull. Now, if no ill effect may be attributed to the barn-yard manure, It would seem that the difference in these trees was owing to the salt." tSTToo much wheat, it seems, was rais ed in California, last summer. There are not enough storehouses there to hold the crop, or ships enough coming to San Fran cisco to carry away the surplus. Many thousands of bushels remain unthrashed in the fields, and, although freights are dou ble the rates of the previous year, a hun dred ships at least could be filled up with the wheat now stored in San Francisco. Truly the Golden Horn is a horn of plenty. t3T" The co-operative society of furmors in Iowa is said to control one-third of the grain warehouses and elevators in that State.' The society has 77,000 members. RADWAY'S BEADY RELIEF CUBE THE WORST PAINS In from One to Twenty Minutes. NOT ONE HOUR Mler reading (Ms (invert lament nei-tl any on UFKt;it wmi i'ain.
