The wagon -was overturned and fell with its load of railroad ties on one of the horses. It was with much difficulty that the horse was re leased and the wagon drawn up on to the road, though it was Anally done and both wagon and horse wore found to be but tittle injured. Conference. On lust Thursday a week a son of Jacob Musser, of Walker twp., agod 12 years, was burned to death under the following clroumstancos: The mother of the boy went to a neighbor'! bouse, leaving the boy at home. The mother came home to find ber boy wrapt in flames, and so seriously burned that be died from the effects. He was buried ontlie following Sunday. Juniata tienlineU Answer U Problem. The problem In last weeks Timks, had brought a variety of answers, which show how great a difference 4f opinion will sometimes exist over sim- jilo problem. II. L. M. of IIowo twp., says, B lost $10 and the sugar; A Centre twp., subscriber nays, B lost $8 and C $3; Another says, B lost $10 and the sugar and C $1 and the tea; While a Madison twp., correspondent ays, B lost $5 and the sugar and C lost $3 and his tea. None of the above are correct. The result of the transaction Is as follows, -the entire loss being $10: C lost nothing as he had the $3 counterfeit on hand before , the trade began, and is a gainer to the amount of profit on the tea sold. A has $0 cash and $4 worth of goods for his spurious bill, while B is out $7 in cash and $3 in su gar for , which be has received the $10 worthless bill. t9Even the following apparently sim ple question will not bo answered as readily us may be supposed. " If 3 cats catch 8 rats in 3 minutes, how many cats will It take to eatrii 100 ruts in 100 minutes?" . A Parlor Orguli and a Slelodt-on are offer ed for sale at a bargain. A bill to reduce the fees of tho sheriff of Porry county which we last week mentioned as having been intro duced into the House, is merely an act, to repeal an act, whoreby the Sheriff receives $3,50 a weok for boarding the prisoners in tho county Jail, and placing this county on the same footing as most of the counties in the State. That is, it leaves tho prico for board of prisoners to bo fixed by the Court, of Quarter Sessions of each county, who are really better qualified to regulate that matter than the Legislature, who are not supposed to know the local prices for board in every locality in the State. Tho passage of this act will meet the approval of a largo portion of the citizen of the county, as tho price now paid for the board of prisoners is as much as the hotels of this borough charge for board and room. COMMUNICATED. Jin. Editou: In reply to articlo in Timer, in rofuronce to the preachers asser tion on Morality. I would beg leave to cor rect our worthy informant. He states, that one of the preachers at Germany, remarked, that the punishment of the moral man would bo greater, than that of the out-breaking wicked man, and by this statement conveys to tho minds of the public, that we advocate such doctrine. Wo remember the remarks made which gave rise to his statement, and we think that an explanation is necossary, that the publio mind be not wrongly impressed, nnd that justice be done us. The subject which we introduced upon that occasion, was, regeneration or tho new birth, and in treating the subject, we noticed, 1st, tho nature of regeneration. In answer to tho question, what is it to bo born again, we remarked that it could not mean a second natural birth, neither a mere baptism of water, nor yet an external reformation, and further, remarked, that he who would as sume the form of Godliness, and take upon himself the name of christian, without tbo new birth or regeneration, if there was a difference, God would look upon the man without a profession with more favor than upon the " wolf in sheep's clothing," this is the idea conveyed, and the doctrine ad vanced, and we are able to defend the same with the sacred scriptures. J. M. Spkf.sk. lirlor Item. Information wanted by a gentleman re siding not far from Landisburg, concerning a goose that was stolen on Tuesday evening February 13th from his premises. Any person giving information in regard to it so that the thieves can be detected will re ceive a liberal reward. The commissioners of Cumberland county have made arrangements whereby the tramps who seek quarters in jail do the county some service, by breaking stone. Carlisle has been visited by a Vitriol thrower, and the consequence is that broad cloth coats are at a discount. A stable in York was destroyed on Sun day a week by ilm, with all its contents, among which were four horses and two cows. Mrs. Christian Long of Newport had a paralytic, stroke on Monday of last week. Through prompt medical aid she was relieved, but is still not out of danger. The authorities of Newport have arrested some of tho boys who desecrated the Sab bath, and have brought them before Squire Zinn, for a hearing. There are eighteen counties in the State with less pobulation than Perry and twenty two that return a smaller taxable valuation. Who stole the goose ? is now the question around Landisburg. Last weok, a valuable horse, the prop erty of Ben. Huber, of St. Thomas town ship, Franklin county, broke his neck, killing himself instantly. , An act has been introduced into the Legislature incorporating the Duncannon Bloomilcld and Loysville Railroad. . Diaries for 1872 are for sale by F. Morti mer. -8oine sneak thief stole a number of articles from the clothes line in our yard last week. An alarming number of cases of sick ness are reported in Uarrisburg. Among those suffering are Mr. Hobert Kelly, and the family of Henry Fritz, who recently moved from this place. The cause of the sickness is supposed to bo impurities in the water. hC A lad was arrested in Spring township on Thursday last for taking money from the drawer of the Store in Little Germany. The next day a charge was made against the proprietor of the store for keeping a gambling house. The cold weather of this winter has caused great loss to those having potatoes buried. On Wednesday last a wagon belonging to Henry Boeder living on the farm owned by Olivor Hioe in Miller twp., slid off the road and was only prevented going onto the It. It. below by lodging agaiust a tree. The lead horses broke loose and escaped but the oth ers were drawn over, and the off horse which is blind was somewhat injured. By the aid of some railroad bands the wagon was ta ken apart and set up on tho road, and the load of shelled com replaced. Church Notices. Presbyterian Service.
