The opinion is general that canal navigation will be closed for tho season at Syracuse, Oswego, Rome, Little Falls and Schenectady, and one hundred boats are frozen in at Rome. tW A curious fact is related of the Maine woodchnpers, who, in the winter months. while felling trees amid snow and ice, can not wear close-fitting boots, but very large sites, that allow their feet to slip to and fro, thus causing friction and warmth But from this they have their feet com' plotely encrasted with corns. In the spring, when they raft their bigs, they do not change their clothing or boot for weeks, until their arrival at the saw-mills.
