TILE BEDFORD STREET DISTRICT.-At meeting of the Board of Health, this after noon, the following report was received from John E. Addicks, Esq., the Health Officer : . " Since the last meeting of the Board I have daily visited --the- Alaska-Street- District, and- beg to report that every duty la promptly per. formed, - and the sanitary condition of the - whole district is very much improved. I have no report to-day, and trust it will not increase in thatinstitution "l have again called the attention of the Building Inspectors to the old rotten shanties and rookeries, and also exposed privy-Wells. They have assured me that- everything we suggest shall be done, and they expect an or der from the Court to-day. . Dr. H. Earnest Goodman, Port Physician, reports eight cases of relapsing fever sent to the Hospital yesterday, and about the same number, with two froth the.prison, to-day. He accounts for the increase partially: by the, fact • that the peo_ple are now-promptly repOrting sickness at the Mission House. • _The_report of Dr. J. Howard Taylor,_physi Municipal - clan in charge of. the Hospital, sub mitted to the Board of Health to-day, shows that sixty-tivecases of the relapsing fever have been under treatment in the Hospital, and five patients have.died. Inquiries having been made as to the courge to be purstied to get a patient admitted to the Municipal Hospital, under the charge of the Board ofillealthy the Health Officer thinishes us with the following stidernent : . The Hospital is solely for the use of sick by contagious diseases of a dangerous nature. very p =ysician is_ iequired _by — law tu - gives notice at the Health Office of such a case under-his practice. The patient will be sent to the • Hospital without loss of time, as the Health Office is connected by telegraph Avith_tho Hospital, so that the ambalance. can . be sent for the patient promptly , . And, again; if any private citizen is aware ._____or,supposes_the__existence_of_such_a__case_AL sickness, if he will - report the matter at the Health Office it is the duty of the HealtkOtli eer, by special statute law; at once to instruct the Port Physician to examine and report the . facts of the - case to him;and, on that. report, it is his further duty to have the patient re: moved to the Hospital incase of need. As soon as the Board of Health, were in formed by the Board of Guardians f the Poor - that they had no moreroom for patients suf fering from relapsing fever, they at once opened their hospital for such cases in add,- tante the others they had already under treat ment, and their ambulances have daily been making two or three tripS from the infected district. THE FEVER D 'STRICT—THU DISEASE Sranantrro.—The relapsing fever, so far from disappearing ;rum the Bedford street district, is rapidly spreading, and to-day is raging in sections which hitherto have been free from it. Six patients were taken tai the hospital from Bedtord street this morning; and the ambulance was called into service to take two men, sick with the fever, from Moyamensing Prison. We need hardly say that the appearance of this disease in the jail is a cause for grave alarm. The warm weather of yesterday and to-day has given a marked impetus to the disease, and has justi fied the most serious fears for the conse quences when the weather Becomes hot. There iti ' dvery reason to believe that delay in enforcing most energetic sanitary measures will insure the spread of a frightful epidemic throughout the city. • Fxnas DultirM AMtm.—The reportof Tor rence AloGusker, Captain of the Insurance Patrol, shows that during the month of April there were 41 fires in the city.
