THE MAENNERCHOIL—To-morrow night there will be another gay and brilliant scene at the Academy of Music. The occasion will be the annual masked ball of the Maennerchor. What these balls have been in the past, everybody knows; for who has not attended some of the balls given by this oid musical society ? The Germans understand very fully how to get up this class of entertainments, and the arrange ments are always made in such a manner that every person who participates will enjoy them to the highest degree. The ball of this season will be grand. Something new is introduced every tear, and to-morrow evening will.not be an exception in that respect. The committee of ar rangements, composed of gentlemen of expe rience in such matters, have been laboring ardu ously to add to the attractions of the affair, and have many novelties in store for those who visit the Academy to-morrow night. SEWING MACHINES AS HEALTO PEEBERVERS.— It is not the least' argument in favor of the .universal adoption of the Sewing Machine, that they are among the ereateet promoters and savers of health. The needle has carried its hecatombs to the grave, and to that class of victims the advent of the Sewing Ma chine has come like a dispensation of mercy. Indeed. there is no subject upon which one's pen is actuated by dewier convictions, or moves with mote earnest zeal, than in advocating the widest adoption of these health, life, and labor-saving instruments. Of the va rious hewing Machines in use, there are many reasons, for preferring the "Grover & Baker," sold at No. 780' Chestnut street. They are operated with greater ease, and do their work more satisfactorily than others, and they also perform a variety of the more ornate and el egant classes of sewing which no other sewing ma chines attempt, ,;:Fortis,h and other reasons, wher ever the Grover &Maker instruments have been ex hibited in competition with others, they have carried off the palm of victory. EVERYNOpY CONCEDES THAT BENJASITN FRANK 'In was a w isezmaxt and said many wise things. For t stance this• It is time our people understood and practised-more generally life assurance. Many a widow and orphan have had greatreason to be grateful that the advanta ges of life assurance were understood and embraced by the husband end father. A large amount has been paid by Life Assurance Companies to widows and or phans, when it proved almost their only resource.— Benjamin. Frank/in. VIC 9. lie wrote that a hundred years ago, you see.
