QUARTER SESSIONS—Judge Brewster.—Yester .day afternoon Henry Alegood and William De voe, the two notorious burglars caught in the factory on - Cherry street, above FifthOast week, pleaded guilty to the charge of entering the pre mises with intent to commit a burglary.. They were each sentenced to pay ailne of $5OO, and to undergo an imprisonment_ of three years and nine months in the Eastern Penitentiary. These two men have but lately served an imprisonment of seven years in the New Jersey Penitentiary. William Ball was also among the prisoners dis posed of yesterday. Ile was sentenced to pay a fine of $l,OOO and to un dergo an imprisonment of five years in the East ern Penitentiary. This morning Mr. D. Y. Killgore, the attorney engaged by the Hope Engine Company to prose cute the members of the Moyamensing Hose Company for the assault upon the house and members of the Hope, came into Court and stated to the Judge that he had just been informed that five or six members of the Moyamensing Hose Company were on the Grand Jury. He there fore desired that the jury be summoned to appear in Court, in order that the array might be chal lenged. It was suggested by Mr. O'Byrne; for the Moyamensing Hose Company, who was pre sent, that notice should have been given of the challenge, and further that the challenge should have been made on Monday, when the Grand . Jun' first appeared. Jiidge Brewster suggested that an affidavit ahould have been ptePared, setting forth the facts alleged by Mr. Kilgore. After some argument, the Grand Jurors were brought into Court, Judge Brewster stating that the Court was not trying the question between the Moyamensing and Hope, and if the jurors answered that they were members of either Com pany, it could not be cause of challenge, the Cciurt not being aware judicially of any ease in volving the membership of either organization. But the counsel had the right to ask the jurors if they had formed or expressed an opinion on the 811 . 1ipct referred to. he fifteen jurors were then examined in the manner indicated by Judge Brewster. Seven of them had formed an opinion, but added that this opinion would not influence them, as they recog nized the effect of the oath they had taken. Eight jurors answered that they had not formed an opinion. The jurors then retired to their room, and the subject dropped. CITY NOTICES.
