'LATER EUROPEAN NEWS BY THE HIBERNIA. • FATHER PoniT, April 30. . -The steamship Hibernia has passed this point on the way to Quebec. Her advices are to the 20th inst. The steamship City of Baltimore, from New York, arrived at Queenstown on the 19th. The Moravian arrived at Liver pool on the morning ,of the 18th. The steamer Helvetia, from New York, arrived at Queenstown on the 10th. The steamship China, from Boston, arrived at Queenstown on the 20th. AUSTRIA AND PRUSSIA. The German advices continued to be more re-assuring, and there was a grow ing • belief in the probability of securing peace. A. telegram from Vienna, dated the 18th -instant, says:—Bavaria, Wurten3burg, Sax.- ony, Baden and Darmstadt, are quite united on the German and Federal question. • .Should war occur they would all be on the - side of Austria. Their agreement en courages the hope that peace will not be dis turbed. The Berlin correspondent of the London 2V2nes says: • "Count Bismark has repeatedly tendered his resignation, written within the last few days,.but has been unable to obtain the sanction of the King to his withdrawal. "The modification of the Cabinet will be accelerated by the Emperor of Austria .baying informed the - Emperor of France that under certain circumstances he would -not object terlay ;the question before a European Congress." The' same writer says most positively -that no concentration of troops has taken place in any part of Prussia, and that there is not' a trace of any measure capable of be ing construed as aggressive. Peace meetings continue to be held in the large towns throughout Prussia. The text of the Prussian reply to the Atu3- • trian despatch of the 7th inst. has been pub lished. It dwells especially on the ad mitted movements of Austrian troops on the Prussian frontier, by which Prussia was led to take defensive measures, and says if Count .Mensdorff, after the Emperor had passed his word that no aggression was in tended brAnstria, still continues military prepaiations, it cannot be expected that Prussia (an equally clear denial of hostile intentions having been. made by, the King) tilipuld relinquish those defensive measures which were called forth by the attitude of Austria. The answer of Prussia to England's re 'Monstrance is said to be cold and haughty. -.The answer of Austria says--" Austria does not ask an inch of land in the' Duchies, nor will she accept it. Prussia wishes to annex the Duchies, but Austria is bound to support the rights of the Schleswig-Holstein people. She will not ...dictate to them, but requires that the will of the people and of the Diet should be respected. The Prussian and. Austiian troops should be withdrawn, and the people should choose their Govern. ment by universal suffrage.. Austria ac cepts their decision ; even if in favor of Prus. sm." A telegram from Copenhagen, says, the Government of Denmark has received com munications Which will compel it to assume „glees passive attitude in the German dis pute, and it has adopted resolutions of an 'important character. • GREAT BRITAIN. The proceedings of Parliament on the 28th inst. were unimportant. • FRANCE. The Imperial decree prorogues the Corps Legislatif until June 21. Rentes, on the 18th, were quoted at 671.15 c. SPAIN. - " ' In the Chamber of Deputies the Minister of the Interior stated that the .Government was cognizant of the operations of certain conspirators, but did not apprehend any se rious disturbance of the public tranquillity. . Russia. There have been great rejoicings at St. Petersburg and elsewhere, on account of the Emperor's escape from assassination. The man who attempted the Emperor's life is a Russian land owner of small means, who considered himself injured by the emancipation of the serfs. He discharged a pistol within a few feet of the Emperor, and the shot would probably have taken effect had not a _peasant turned aside the assassin's arm. This peasant has been en nobled. It is said that the Emperor,. with perfect presence of mind, himself, se ized the cul prit,- asking him quietly, "What have I ever done to you that you should seek my life?,, THE PRINCIPALITIES. A despatch from Berlin says it is ex tremely doubtful if Prince Charles of Ho henzollern will accept the Hospodarship of Roumania. It is reported that the Great Powers have declined to countenance his totally illegal election. LNDIA. BOMBAY, March 28.—The Indian budget has been brought in and passed. No fresh taxes are imposed. The duty on saltpetre has been reduced to three per cent. ad valo • rem. The Conspiracy Trials at Nashville. 'llls.uviLLE,April3o.--The Court-Martial in the case of Bruner has been postponed till May 7th. The case of Isham Henderson was re sumed to-day. Colonel Charles H. Irvin testified to buy ing, a large number of males of Henderson in 1864; he also purchased of his sgents small quantities of forage. The accused pastured .a large lot of Government stock for the-witness iu the summer 0(1864. The witness purchased mules of the accused as they were brought in, after passing inspec tion. He supposed, until recently, that the bond for the good title.to, the .animals, sold by Henderson was on: file in liis office. Since then he learned that it was never. filed. Thecwitness had no contract with Hen derson, and verbal agreeinent different from that with other parties, The receipts for the mules were filled out ' on printed blanks; signed H. Bruner, by the clerk of the corral. After the presentation of these receipts for vouchers they were cancelled and destroyed, to prevent' being used again. - After some unimportant testimony rela tive to the accuracy of the accounts kept at the corral, and the modes of ascertaining incorrect entries, the Court adjourned till to-morrow. The original •book- of entry at the, corral has been found, and will facili tate, the progress of the case. A heavy rain has fallen all, day, • From FeTOrleans. NEW ORLEANS, April 30.—The United States Court is closed, and Judge Darrell says he will keep it closed so long as bayo, nets bristle about it. Anew flood is coming down from all the rivers. The whole of Southwestern Louisi ana is overflowed. No progress is being made in closing, the crevasses. The loss of property and crops - will be immense, The press of this city comment severely on the quarantine regulations regarding the cholera,_ which have been modified so as to be discriminating. fill vessels are examined, but only those having cnolerwaboard are to iv quarantined, The;New York, shipping is free, except /hat, greater vigilance is ordered. The: steamship. George Washington has arrived from New York. T Military, Commission at Charleston, B. Pastor," referred, to in re port of committee, several weeks ago. From W. B. H., $5; E. G., s3;Anonymous, Harrisburg, (special) $3O; a friend, Balti more, $5; J. G. S., Belvidere, N. J., $10; T. Philadelphia, (sent to Oily. Pastor's house) $25, Those of our citizens who contributed to the aid of soldiers' families through City Pastor, will see that there is yet unpaid over $3OO, which should at once be made up. During less than three months of last winter he begged by his appeals, cash, food, coal, and clothing, to the amount of about $50,000. This has relieved hundreds of soldiers' families, and thousands of indi viduals connected with'these fatathes. This entire work was done by himself and wife gratuitously. His treasury is over drawn yet more than $3OO. After he had ceased appealing, he still continued giving orders on stores for groceries and pro visions, in the confidence that funds suffi= dent would be sent to pay those bills. HO is still relieving needy cases, notwithstaad-, ing the state . of his treasury, and we hope cur citizens will manifest that generosity, benevolence and philanthrophy which ,cha racterized their contributions to this cause during the winter, JAMES H. Y., April 30.—An "extensive fraud has just come to light in Eastor, Washington county, through which the Cambridge Valley Bank has been swindled out of about $20,000 in discounting the notes of Batty & Hoag, of Easton. Other banks in Washington and Saratoga counties have Suffered in the same manner, to the extent, it is reported, of $40,000. Batty & Hoag owned the large farms. in the' town, worth 625,000. with a mill in Michigan, worth $lB,OOO, and $16,000 in stock in the National Bank. When their notes fell due it was discovered that they had dis• posed or all their property to E. W.
