CITY --BULLETEif. QUARANTINE REGULATIONS.—The city is now undergoing cleansing, in order to avoid the introduction of cholera. The officers of the Board of Health are entirely engaged in the removal of nuisances, and the contractors for cleansing the streets are working assiduously to get the streets, alleys and lanes in a proper condition.. At the meeting of the Board of Health, yesterday, the following was passed and is officially promulgated by Gen. Horatio G. Bickel, the Health Officer. Whereas, The appearance of the Cholera on board of vessels coming from Europe to the port of New York has occasioned much anxiety and alarm among our citi zens; and, whereas, it becomes our. duty as the guardians of the public health, to ob- . serve ail proper measures, in order to pre vent the arrival of this disease in our city; therefore, .Resolved, That on and after May Ist., prox., all vessels arriving from foreign or American ports, as directed in the second section of the Health law of 1818, shall stop at the Lazaretto for a visit, and that all pas senger vessels shall be detained at the plea sure.ef the board for purification and venti lation. THE PISTOL FouND.—The pistol, which, with the exception of a small silver watch, was the only missing article secured by the murderer of the Dearing family, turned up yesterday. Mr. Straub, proprietor of a lager beer saloon at Germantown avenue and Otter street, made his appearance at the Detective office with a navy revolver and a powder flask, which he said he pur chased from a German who had a thumb offone of his hands. He knew nothing of the loss of a revolver from the residence of Mr. Dearing until his s i ttention was at tracted by a reward of fifty dollars being offered for a navy revolver, which he thought answered the description of the one he pur \ chased for $3. The individual of whom he bought the weapon was at his place on the Tuesday following the murder of the Dear ing family. Mr. Straub accompanied Chief Franklin to the County Prison, where he was confronted with Probst. He at once identified him as the man who made the sale. THE FEMALE BIBLE Soot/I:lA.—The an nual meeting of the Female Bible Society was held yesterday in the lecture room of St. Andrew's Church. Interesting addresses were delivered by Rev. Dr. Beadle, Dr. Breed, Mr. Paddock, and others. The Treasurer's report was read, which shows that the total receipts for the year ending April 24, 1866, including a balance of $lB9 09, was $2,592 69. The expenditures were $2,118 66; leaving a balance of $474 03. The Librarian's report shows that the following Bibles and Testaments were distributed : Tlpglish, 540; German, 66; French, 16. Tes talnents : English, 783; with Psalms, 139; German; 51; French, 75; Italian, 6. Total volumes, 1,681. FOUND DROWNED.-Att unknown white man, about forty-five years old, was found drowned in the Schuylkill, at South street wharf, yesterday. He was 5 feet :8 inches high, had dark brown hair and whiskers, and wore an army blouse, black vest, dark pants, and low shoes. There was a paper on his person on which were the names of James Quigley and John Coffey. FINE ARTS.—We call the attention of our readers to the sale of-about 100 modern oil paintings, which will be sold without re serve, this evening, at the Art Gallery, 1020 Chestnut street, at 7 , 1 o'clock. Among the collection we notice a couple of subjects by M. D. Lewis, also a water color by the same .artist, now open for examination. NEPTUNE VS. COMMONWEALTH.—A. base ball match between the above clubs will come off this afternoon, at Fifteenth and Wallace streets. The game will commence at a quarter of three o'clock. Good accom modations for visitors have been provided. INTERESTING READINGS.—Prof. Philip Lawrence, and some of his very ablest pu pils, will give readings at Horticaltural Hall, to-morrow evening, as will be Been by the advertisement. THE TOPIC OF THE DAY is the murder trial, and the excitement on the subject is intense Crowds surround the Court room and crowds are within it. We do not wonder at this , state of feeling any more than we wonder at the popularity of the cheap and excellent coal sold by W. W. Alter, No 557 North Ninth street, and at his branch office Sixth awl Spring Garden streets. "Harr STEALS His GOODS."—This was a very uncharitable remark !bat we heard in front of 3ffr. A. T. Hoyt's Novel Gift Store a few days ago, we zeimt say; but when we realize the fact that there are thousands in this world unblessed with short-Sighted ideas, we, cannot attach any particular blame to any one. It seems a little strange to many that Hoyt can afford to do as be does, but when the fact is taken into consideration that Hoyt's plan is simply a combina tion that he has made with his customers to purchase goods cheap, no intelligent person can fail to see the legitimate practicability of his enterprise.
