A N ORDINANCE TO AUTHORIZE AN AD-
A DITIONAL LOAN TO AID THE ENLIST
MENT Or VOLUNTEERS.
Section 1. The Select and Common Councils of
the City of Philadelphia, do ordain*. That. the.
Maj or he and he is hereby authorized to borrow on
the credit of the city from time to. time, as may be
required by the City Treasurer, such sums of
money as may be required.to aid the enlistment of
Volunteers for the service of the United States, not
exceeding in the whole the sum of Two Million,
Dollars, for ./which interest, not ,to
exceed at the. Tate of- six per cent,
per annum, shall be paid half-yearly, ,on
the first days of July and January, at the office or
the City TieasureT. The principal of said loan
shall be payable andoaid at of,thirty ’
i years from the date of the came, and not . before
without the consent of holders thereof,; cer
tificates therefor, in the usual form of such certifi
cate? of City Loans-, shall be issued in such amount
as.the lenders may require, but. notfot any frac
tional part oc one. hundred: dollars, for., irequired,,
in amounts .of .five hundred or one thousand dol- .
larsi and it shall be expressed in said certificates,
the said loan ;therein mentioned, and the interest
. thferieofiare pnytiple free from all taxes. /i; 5.

fund, which fund and its accumulation are hereby

authorized to pnbiish in two daily newspapers of
this City, daily for four weeks, the Ordinance pre
sented to Common Council at a stated meeting
thereof, held on the 4th day of* February, 1864, en
titled “An Ordinance to Authorize an Additional
Loan tp aid the Enlistment of Volunteers,
