Their movements were observed by another man, who It was alleged circulated reports derog atory to tbe character or the Mist mentioned parties, bnce the slander suit. The case was tried at Kane City and dismissed on tbe grouuds of no cause of action. The ion trial belore Justice Reynolds resulted iu a verdict of not guilty. At tbe conclusion of tbe slander case, tbe young men brought suit against one of tbe witnesses on tbe slander suit lor perjury A verdict of not guilty was also rendered in tbe perjury case. A large portion or tbe people of Kane City were subLcened on tbe ease, and a good deal of Interest was mani fested as to tbe result. McCray, Esq., bas decided tbat wnen tbe owner of a farm bas stored the oil produced from it, without selling during the vear 1870, he is nevertheless liable for the lucome tax upon its value as if it had been converted iuto money. It is said that Mr. McCray will be obliged to pay on bis production, of oil stored iu tanks, about $8,000. We understand tbe. matter will be brought before the court's, aod if tbe decision be sustained it will seri ously affect many ol tbe producers. There seems to be no good reason wby tbe produc tion of oil should be more burdensome than tbat of agricultural staples, to which, so far, tbe rule laid down by Commissioner Pleasanlon baa not been applied.
