New WEM.Pbllllps Bras, well No. 3,
Booker farm, Pithole, was tubed day before
yesterday, and started up at 20 barrels per
day with good prospects of an Increase.
The total depth of the well Is 895 feet, and
18 feet of excellent sand rock was found.
It Is thought by many that the belt runs a
little east of north and crosses the south
east corner ot that portion of the Judge Me
Calmont farm owned by our townsman,
Capt. J, M. Kepler. New wells going down
on that farm will soon test the matter.
Later, By a areoial dispatob from PIl
bole this p. m., we learn that Phillips Bros,
well No. 3, Eooker farm, Is now pumping
20 to 25 barrels per day. Their well No. 4,
same farm, Is 12 feet In a coarse pebble sand
rock and has a big show for oil.

verdict of not guilty.
At tbe conclusion of tbe slander case, tbe
young men brought suit against one of tbe
witnesses on tbe slander suit lor perjury
A verdict of not guilty was also rendered in
tbe perjury case. A large portion or tbe
people of Kane City were subLcened on tbe

Mammoth New York Cmctm ako Mr.-
AOgrtrs. As we are advised by the Im
mense board opposite the postofflce, and the
bills around town, this combination of
arenlc excellence and zoological display will
be here, exhibiting on tbe Island for one
day only, tbe 2 1st of April.
Tbe grand feature will be a balloon as
cension, given gratuitously to tbe public,
prior to tbo circus performance. As tbe
spectacle takes place on the Island, there is
just a buman probability tbat tbe landing
may take place in tbo Ohio river, which
will enhance tbo danger of the aeronaut
and tbo Interest of Ibe occasion. The
balloon, "Tallulob," is a monster airship,
one hundred leet high and fifty feet in di
ameter. Tbe arenlc corps, athlete, aad acrobatic
and tbe equestrian attractions, are said to
be Grst-clals, and cannot well fail to please
all who may visit tbe performance.

A Sixavi.AR Decision. It is said that
Commlsi'.oner Plena ictoo, In the case ol
James S. McCray, Esq., bas decided tbat
wnen tbe owner of a farm bas stored the
oil produced from it, without selling during
the vear 1870, he is nevertheless liable for
the lucome tax upon its value as if it had
been converted iuto money.
It is said that Mr. McCray will be obliged
to pay on bis production, of oil stored iu
tanks, about $8,000. We understand tbe.
matter will be brought before the court's,
aod if tbe decision be sustained it will seri
ously affect many ol tbe producers. There
seems to be no good reason wby tbe produc
tion of oil should be more burdensome
than tbat of agricultural staples, to which,
so far, tbe rule laid down by Commissioner
Pleasanlon baa not been applied. Titus
