During the oast few months, an unusual number of deaths has occurred In the house, but until recently It was not suspected that any foal means had been em ployed. The sudden Sickness of a num ber of persons who had eaten at Mr& Grinder's table at length awakened sunilcion, and an in yestigstion of the facts lead to the conclusion that she hoe been formate months past in the habit of administering poison to her neighbors and the isokbates.of her ponce, from the egrets of which it le allered that several hare died. The latest phase of this "infirmity," we find in the corres pondence of the Independent, on the occas ion of the laying of the corner stone of an edifice, denominated, "New England Chinch," at Chicago. In the address of Dr. BARTLETT he remarked that the name was suggestive: (1) of its origin among New England people; (2) of the whole circle of influence that had radiated from Plymouth Rock; (9) of christian fellow. ship, as unbroken as the seamless robe of Christ; (4) of a system of doctrines —Cal• vanism modified by New England.
