6 „., tra : aattit, IVEDNESDAT== -.. -MARCEL 30 1834 -- CITY AND HUMAN. From Yesterday's Evening Gazette The Subterranean Transportation Com- The-Hil City &Se& protests most earnestly against the passage of the act to incorporele the .BnbtitrraneOil Transportation Com pany, to which e alluded a few days ago. The object of t is .}, comp is, in brief, to i ai r coney oil floe the Venango region to this city, by means of pipes, laid under ground. , The &gine; says : II We feel pencil that any number of respect- i able gentleman, like those whose names ap pear as - The incorporators of this Company, should bo found in the city of Pittsburgh, who would lend their aid toward inauguratier a sehemd, that will, if enceessful, work se disastrously against the best interests of. the petroleum lamimosa to Wietern Pennsylvania. No other place has received as much benefit from the oil business as hes Pittsburgh. For three years past that city has been the great depot of Leis oil region. Her dealers and capitalists have had the Eh — nicest portions of the greasy try:6_l.er°, pedneed by our people. The producers of Oil Creek have been the best patrons the business men of Pittsburgh have ever bad. Their refiners and buyers have always acted u "bears" on the oil market, and have bled us freely. Still the prodstegs here have geared; moneured at all this. Bat our peo ple do fell higfily incensed at this last grand move,by a few interested Individuals, to mo .nopolia for theirown personal aggrandise - meet, the. entire immense carrying trade of the Venango Oil Region. If this Company Is empowered by . our State Legislature to early' out their plans, In a very short time the valley of Oil. Creek would become a Mere wild waste. No one can surety hems the effrontery to claim that this fpipe scheme would benefit any one but tsi , projectors. There would be no recce sit for any other residents here, save those ha ing charge of the pipe, and the producers. - Thandreds of boats and the thons.ds of bo teen and teamsters, who anew engaged in his business, would find their oupation ST germ. The bazioese houses here would soon be without customers. There would be no neessity for any of the numerous railroads which the oil discovery has been the means of projecting into and through this part of the State. The labor and the vast amount of wealth that has been invested here, in develop ing the resource, and building up cities and towns, would all be expended in Amin. Not only our immediate locality, but the whole of Western Pennsylvania, will be the sufferers, if this exclusive monopoly is ' , cheered- In the name of common justice, whim the law-makers of this commonwealth are sworn to dispense, the people of the Ve neer° Oil Region protest against the inaugu ratite of a system of oppressiot, which the intiorporating of tits company would canes It is - hinted that the whole Water is a gigantic speculation on the part of the incorporators, same of whom own large refineries 'ln Pittsburgh. . It is, supposed hero that they will endeavor to make their own priest at the wells for oil, ri• they can doubtless Jo, by baring the means of transportation at cheaper rates than can he famished by any other mode. We dill upon the representative. in one own .d the adjoining counties, now it the State Leg- Hlatura to give this monopoly its death blow. Strangle the foul scheme in its incipiency. It if probable that no effort will be sparest to force this bill through. We hope our own people will wake up to the sonse of their , dan ger, hold meetings, and remonstrate against the incortoration of the Subterranean OH Company. latectinp; of the Coal Exchange. The raglans weekly meeting of the Coal Exchange was held this morning et the Board of Trade R 40911, Fourth street, Vice Presi dent Bonier in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read \• and approved. hi. Bailey, from the Committee on Coal Digging M 0411163, made a report, which was accepted, and. the committee continued. Mr..l. F. Drava made a verbal report from the Committee on the new Monongahela Bridge. Lie 'totaled that he had waited upon the menagerie( the bridge, who informed him that it had not been decided whether the nee structure would be a wooden or a suspension bridge, and that they would notify the cote -. maten bolero locating the piers. The charter • of the company settled the matter in regard to the heighth of the bridge, but the Exchange might offer some reaommendotions its regard to the location of the piers. The report was accepted and the committee continued. A communication was received from Mr. W. Brown, declining to carve al Chairman of the Sanitary Fair Committee, on account of absence from the laity. Alter considerable discussion the resigna tion weis'aiseepted, and Mr. A. D. Smith op pointed to fill tho vacancy open the commuoe. Mr. Ifornii, from the committee appointed to advise as to the practicability oft importing workmen from Eiirope, reported verbally that they bad attended to the duties of their ap pointment, and, would report favorably to the scheme. A great many Belgiatts had been imported by cola dealers In other parts of the country with gins* benefit to the trade. Mr. Bailey strongly favored the importation of .workmen. Same miners who &reacquainted with the operations of coal digging machince might be brought from England, and be of groat benefit to the present employersland ' employees. 'need &aimed ruiners from Europe might tto advantageously employed in oar adzes. Mr. O'Connor stated that three hundred 'Belgians had been itoperted•for the Brady'. Band Coal Works, and that they had given satire sadifeetion. After some further dis .. onasion the matter mislaid over. On _motion, the epecial_hitsinece for the meeting on Tuesday next will be the subject of Using the price for loading coal iota bar- Oa motion x adjourned. Arritaa, of the /024 ItngSmeut.
