The color of the cloth ii quite a matter of taste, while the blouse should be either in foulard or pongee. The dress is made up princess style, the corselet lacing in front OTer the silk blouse, which should be made up over some thin lin ing. It closes either with hooks or pearl buttons on a band of the same material. If you use hooks you must make two small plaits to conceal the opening. The straight collar is set off with a bow made of the silk. The skirt foundation has a small ruffle at the bottom. The front breadth, which extends only to the waist line, is bias on both sides and has a small hem which conceals the seam. The front of the corselet is bowed its full length. It runs somewhat to a point at the back and is piped. A very pretty color to choose for this dress would be cafe au lait, with a straw colored blouse. The dress materials most in voeue in wool en stuffs have broad stripes in light tones A GirVt School Drets. plaids in two shades, spotted efiects or large or small flowers in relief. Swanskins, plain or striped, and printed flannels are much used for wrappers and morning negligees. "When the weather permits, and no doubt often when it forbids, you will see the popular shoulder capes, palatines and stoles. 51u2i promise to be more reason able as to size than they were last season. It seems too ridiculous to aggravate the evil oi cold fingers by carrying about a mufl too small to cover the hands. It would be far more reasonable for the lady of tashion to revive that quaint old custom of carrying a live poodle about in cold weather to serve as a muff, but the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty, etc., would soon put a stop to such a practice, no mat ter how picturesque it might be, especially when the dog was dyed to suit the wearer's complexion. Velvet and Evening Gowns. Every debutante thinks her own especial wardrobe for the gayeties of the coming sea son the prettiest yet producsd, and when one is permitted to gaze upon the numerous ball and dinner gowns that are so soon to grace some iestive occasion we wonder if there could be anything prettier devised by modiste or donned by debutante. Almost every one has a touch of velvet about it, being generally the sleeves. A certain dainty little gown was of white On diue, which is the new crape weave beneal ine, with large puffed sleeves of rose pink velvet, a wide belt and flat bow of the same worn about the waist. A wide empire berth of real lace falls over the great pufls and almost to the line of the short waist. This is an especi ally pretty style for young girls, and white satin, with pale blue or yellow velvet, makes most effective combinations. An ampire dinner costume of the finest white silk crepe had cross straps, a la Jose phine, in white moire, ribbon-edged, with pearls. The sleeves were high and puffed, and the craceful material fell in full fan plaits from the square cut neck at the back, Around the edge of the gown were two rows of the moire ribbon with the pearl edging. The under row had a deep white silk fringe with pearl pendants set beneath it, and the only ornaments to be worn by the young married belle for whom it is made will be a string of real pearls with a diamond pend apt about her throat, and another row of pearls, filet fashion, twined in and out of the suunv hair, which will be worn in the stvle made familiar by the Empress Jose phine. The Smoking Gown Coming. To show that smoking is becoming very fashionable among the ladies, smoking gowns are the latest addition to the ward robe of the popular woman who is beloved by her fellow-man. They are of the rich, warm brown of the tobacco Itself, or of the faint gray blue of the rings and clouds of smoke. They are softly clinging and noiseless fabrics, frilled with yellowlaces, which only deepen their tint in the smoke laden atmosphere, and the woman of the period is at proud of the well perfumed smoking gown as is a man of a well colored meerschaum, for it indicates, don'f you. see, that she is often bidden to the sacred preeincte of the smoking room, which she may not enter without invita tion, At a Wedding In Dublin. "At a recent very elegant wedding In Dublin high life," writes a lady to an American friend, "the beautiful young brldemalds sisters of the bride wore white eofded velvet gowns, trimmed with otter fur, and white felt hats, trimmed with os tricn plumes ahd golden-brown velvet "The dresses were in the Empire style, and were greatly admired. The bride's dress was of white satin and white velours, en princesse, with exquisite bertha and skirt flounce of point lace. Here very rare diamond ornaments extended even to her gold bonquet-holder and inlaid fan. Her traveling costume was of dark blue Bussian velours, with Connemara cloak of blue cam el's hair, lined with mink and trimmed with a Yery deep cape collar ana edgings of Rus sian sable. Comma II FuL Oxts of the novelties la a black Uk petti coat with ruffles of colored, silk, over which falls a flounce of blaot lace. Blacx chiffon boas are the fanereftbe V BMlf V()vv hour in Paris, and rnfflings of this dainty material sell well tberu all the time. "Bobix bed" Is a sew shade in tailor cloth, and is charming combined with russet brown velvet and dnll gold pas sementerie. Bbaidimj of all sorts with row upon row of narrow, wide, or graduated braids Is to be a popular trimming for autumn and winter dresses. Tbb newest fancy for dancing dresses Is China silk and satire skirts in full accordion plaltlne. It only requires from 15 to 1? jards of material to make one of these skirts. LATE NEWS IN BRIEF.
