4- THE PITTSBTJHG DISPATCH, WEDNESDAY, JULY , 6, 1893. V! GOING TO NEW YORK. The Rash of the Christian Endeavor People Has" Commenced. BIG CROWD OP OHIO DELEGATES. The Bnclceje and Local DelejratioiiB ITill Start This Morning. EXTRA TRAINS ON THE PENNSYLVANIA Crowds of sweet-faced girls, good look ing matrons, some men and a lew boys filled the Union depot last evening. They were members of the Christian Endeavor Society, bound for Kew Xork, A number of outsiders took advantage of the low rale to visit the metropolis, and they helped to swell the ranks of the church people. It wasn't hard to separate the sheep from the goats, and the excursionists could easily be picked out from the Christian workers. It was noticeable that the women predom inated in the throng, and they were led by men wearine white neckties, who were evi dently preachers. The young fellows wore badges on the lapels of their coats, stating where they came from. Heads of families were accompanied by their wives and flocks, and some of the delegates from the "Western States carried baskets, from nhich napkins and loaves of bread protruded. They started from home well provided with food, and had evidently replenished their stock on the way. Crowds From Ohio. The Ohio delegation arrived in the city last eveuine and bad made arrangements to spend the night here. Tliey came in on special trains On the Ft. Wayne and Pan handle roads. All the regular trains for that matter were crowded. The Pittsburg societies had promised to have reception committees at the depots, but either thev were lost in the crowd or they were not there. A number of the Ohio people complained of having to invoke the aid of policemen in finding their hotels. About 100 delegates stopped at the St. James, 150 put up at the Seventh Avenue and as many more sought shelter for the night in the Boyer. This morning the Pennsylvania and Ohio delegations will lead the attack on Xew York. The Pennsylvania road will have sptcial trains for the Ohio and State people. The trains were drawn up in the depot last evening. The cars were lined with streamers announcing the State and name of the society. The Pennsylvania officials expect to have from 700 to 1,000 people out of Pittsburg for Xew York this morning. Delegates From the lVt. The delegates irom Tennessee passed through the city last evening. The Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and Minnesota delegations reached the city alter midnight on the through trains, and proceeded to the metropolis. The people from the other Western States are expected here this morning. Receptions were held last evening at the St James, Boyer and Seventh Avenue Hotels for the Ohio delegates. It was an odd sight to see a lot of girls and women standing around in the lobbies ot the hotels discussing the objects of the convention. The drummers considered it a strange spec tacle, but they admired the ladies for in sisting on their rights. The mob at the depot last evening was jammed against the gates, but the people finally got out without injury. A number of extra oars were put on the first section of the N.Une to carry the passengers. The .rthsVsicpers and lowers, in the sleepers r (Jl laken and none could have been sold.
