There will he no flourish over his departure from the jatL He will be released at the same time with half a dozen other prisoners. His buggy will be waitin; for him and he will be quietly driven home to breakfast with his family for the first time since his thrce nioiiths sentence went into eflcct. Wivsicallv, the ex-Mayor will leave the jail a'better man than when he entered, pol itically it is claimed by his friends, he will be just as strong as before his convic tion. Whether his morals or social stand ins will have suffered or improved will re qnire some time for the world to determine. He has not been sick an cour bintc - -"--fincment in the prison. He Looks and Feels "Well. His conduct has been such as to gain him the liberty allowed all willing prisoners, and lie has accepted every opportunity tor exercise, running up and down the long fii-hts of stairs in course of his duties as rantreman, and in other ways keeping his blood iu circulation and his muscular sys tem in good condition. He is looking the picture of health and strength and much better than when he entered the jaih There have been few days during Ins im prisonment that he has not been visited by politician, officials and others from both cities. In one dav during the past week seven Allegheny' City Councilmcn were seen to enter the jail, and no one doubted the object ol their visit. It is safe to say that a majority of the city Councilmen have visited the imprisoned more than once since sentence was passed upon him. And there have been nianv others besides Councilmen, some of whom no doubt called out of pure friendship, but the bulk of them have had business ct a political matter to talk on. He'told a friend the other day that he intended to settle down to work in his established business as, he could make a pood income at that without worry con nected witli politics. Few people who Itnow the energetic, hustling disposition of -the man will care to believe this, however, and there are manv predictions that, in a quiet, inoflensive wav, the ex-Mayor will exert his power in Allegheny politics to square accounts with some of his former friends. The charge upon which the ex-Mayor was conviccd on February 10 was illegally ex torting Sill SO in fines and costs from a party of Hungarians who had been arrested ior disorderly conduct. A new tiial was asked lor, and on March 1 the motion was nrsued, but Judse Kennedy overruled it. It was expected he would only be fined.but, to the surprise ol all, he was ordered to pay tlie cots ot prosecution and spend three months in jail. The costs were paid yes terday, and the sentence expires with the opening ol the jail this morning. Till: LST SIGNAL lstho bist newspa per story now In publication. It Is by Dora Kn-sell.
