When at Stuttgart, Germany, during tho Winter 1881-82, 1 was suffering from a severe attack of Bronchitis, which seemed to threaten Pnenmonia. I met, at the Hotel Marqnardt, Commander Bcardslee, of the United States Kavy. In speaking of my sickness, he remarked : " Doctor, you can cure that chest trouble-of yours by using an Allcock's Porous Plastee." "Thatmaybo true," I anewered, bat where can I get the plaster t " "Anywhere In the civilized world, and enrol v here in Stuttgar:. Whenever I have a cold, I always use one and find relief." I cent to tho drag store for the plaster, and it did all that my friend had promised. Ever since then I have ns ed it whenever suffering from 3 cold, and I have many times prescribed it for pitients. The Allcock's Plasteb is the best to be had, and has saved many from severe illness, and undoubtedly, if used promptly, will save many valuable lives. Whonever one ha3 a severe cold he should put on an Allcock's Plaster as soon as possible. It should be placed across tho chest, the upper margin jast below the neck ; some hot beef tea, or milk, will aid in the treatment- This Is not. a patent remedy in the objectionable sense of that term, but a standard preparation ofvalue. Thegovemmentsnpplies for the United States Army and Indian Hospital stores contain allcock g x'lasters, and tee medical profession 'throughout the world is well aware of their reliability end excellence. I shall always recommend it, not only to Drcak up colds, but as useful in allay ing pains in the chest and In the back. It is a preparation worthy of scner&l confidence. HONORS FOR DR. REID. In Place of Censure He Is Elected to the General Assembly. M'CRORY HAS A TART ARGUMENT With Bev. J. TV. Young on the Subject of Home Mission Collections. SIOXOXGAHELA PEESBITERI MEETIXG The meeting of the Monongahela Presby tery of the IT. P. Church yesterday was a lively one. Everything went well until the report of the financial agent was read. The report was a very lengthy one, and to save time Rev. Mr. Sands had prepared a brief synopsis, which he asked permission to read. His request was granted, and among other things he said the report rec ommended an increase in the contributions oi "certain" congregations, for missionary purposes. This remark seemed to sting Itev. Dr. Barkley to the quick. He took it as a rebuke directed at a "certain" congre gation. "The report is misleading," he began. "It is a misstatement of the facts, and I move that that portion be eliminated from the minutes." Then followed a lone wrangle over the question. Kev. Mr. "Wallace thought the offensive synopsis should be stricken out of the minutes because he said it was a slap at the Eighth Church. The vexatious para graph was reread, and upon vote of Presby tery Sands was warmly sustained. Thus what might have proved a very destructive storm was quelled in its inception. Dr. Held Elected a Delegate. The Presbytery went into an election for delegate to "the" General Assembly, which meets in Allegheny in May. The following members were selected: Dr. "W. J. Kcid, Dr. J. "W. McClurkin, Dr. J. G. Brown, Rev. J. A. Donthett, Rev. F. A. Hutchin son, Rer. TV. E. Paxton. The elders se lected were Graham Scott, P. B. Douglass, J. TV. Robb, Robert M. McKnight, James TValker and James Harrison. ' Rev. Mr. McCrory offered some objections to a resolution looking to collec tions for the Home Mission debt, during which he remarked that his church had not taken up any collection for the object and gave the reasons therefore," which were that the congregation had al ready been severely taxed lor other matters and that his congregation annually con tributed about three times its quota for missions. One Clergyman Becomes Sarcastic. Rev. J. TV. Young, went after Mr. Mc Crory in a very sarcastic manner and re minded him of a sneech made some time ago in which he advised Mr. Young's con gregation to obey the injunctions of the Presbytery. The speaker thought that Mr. McCrory should obey the request ot the General Assembly. The resolution was finally adopted. The Committee of the Board of Church Exten sion recommended that a new lot be pur chased for the church in Chartiers town ship, and that they be given financial aid. In support of this Rev. TV. E. Paxton, pastor of the church at Chartiers, called at tention to the very unsavory reputation of that locality., and used it as an argument in favor of the committee's recommendation. Mr. Paxton said there was no need to go to Egypt to look for "heathens, and that the place was even worse than Utah. There had been within a lew years nine murders down there, riots and street brawls were frequent, while chicken and dog fighting were almost daily occurrences. The matter was finally referred to the Committee on Church Extension with power to act, after which the Presbytery adjourned. FOB ABUSK OF ALCOHOL Use rjorsford's Acid Phosphate, Dr. W. E. Read what the renowned Chemist, Baron Von Liebig, says: "It is more than probable that the main specific and most important ac tion of 'Carlsbad Sprudel Salts; the so-called solvent and liquifying action is dependent upon the alkaline con stituents. We know the bile to be a saponaceous, that is an alkaline, com bination, and that the physiological', use of the bile is to free the system from its superfluous fats. Now, what Nature accomplishes in its normal state we produce artificially by the use of Carlsbad Sprudel Salts." This remedy is sovereign.
