People a Little Chary About a Change in License Granting TJXTIL TflET KNOW MORE ABOUT IT. Some Kewsy Chat Concerning of Interest to Exposition Goers. EXCELLENT BA.VD PEOGKAMHE TO-DAT A great number of delegates to the German Catholic Congress visited the Exposition yesterday. It is understood, however, that the really big crowd is to come to-night when an essentially German programme will be rendered. Mr. Innes has gone to the great est sains to select a good programme and ths srand fantasia " "Melodies of tLn "Fatherland " will doubtless prove an overwhelming success. The announcement that tne Exposition was free to all orphans caused an amusing scene last evening. An old gentleman of about 60 years strolled up to the doorkeeper and demanded admission on the ground that he was an orphan, and had been one lor 30 years. It took time to persuade him that he hardly came under the category. TbG ""Txposition Excursion Company has announced that on application by the man agement, the inmates of all charitable in stitutions for children will be given a free trip on the steamer "Nellie Hudson to Davis Island Dam. Arrangements can be made at the Exposition or 933 Penn avenue. Boat riding has become one of the features of a visit to the Exposition, and it is quite the thing to take a trip on the steamer or for a party oi a few persons to skim down and up the river in Dart, the little steam launch. A DIFFERED CE OF OPINION. Yesterday's voting topic at The Dis patch headquarters, in the Brunswick-Balfce-Collender Co.'s space, was: "Should the Granting of Liquor "Licenses be Placed in the Hands or a Commission?" The vote was, ares. 5J; noes. 56, snowing that there is a great divergence ot opinion relative to such a change. A large number ot persons said they did not want to express an opinion on the s-Rbject until they knew now the commissioners were to be placed in their official positions, how many there would be of them, something regarding the methods to be pursued, etc Astudvof the votings in the "remarks" column is interesting. Some of the affirma tive voting reasons given were provid ing the commission is non-political;" "Three heads are better than one," "Takes up too much time of the Court and will prevent political favoritism;" "If wisely selected by the citizens," borne of the negative reasons given were: Commissioners too easily fixed," lt is in good hands now," "A commission Is easily commis sioned." SOME OF THE VOTERS. Among the -ats were V. B. Kelly, W. B. Barrett. H. . Cook, Charles Vang, M. B. Fish el, Fred B. Sankey. Burt F. McKee, T. T.Done hoo, J. F. Wcvcr, H. F. Weaver, William G. Stern. Hopper Bro. & Co., 307 Wood St. Everybody knows where this is, they don't need to be told that it is in north gal lery. Where is the Hopper display was asked the writer. The only reply necessary was to point to a dense mass of people push ing, crowding and jostling toreachone spot, and that spot was the Hopper exhibit Xo use trying to get to it, the people who had made their way through the throng stoutly maintained their positions, lor they were enjoying, as every one else has done, the beauty and charm of this display, with its infinite variety and incomparable taste. No one can pretend that they don't know the latest s'yles in furniture after looking at this exhibit, for there is au array of elegant, jiew and fashionable styles that is stupendous, and one, too. that must de light the most fastidious. If you cannot get near the exhibit go to the store at 307 Wood street, where they have Jour big floors, and vou will have a chance to see their fine goods without trouble. J. F. ninedcr. 133 Fifth Avenne. Visitors to the Exposition hare taken heed ot the invitations extended by Mr. Maeder, to come and examine his fine stock ot materials for fall and winter suits, tor men and boys, and the result is a large increase in this already large business. People appreciate clothes that are handsome to look at, and comfortable to wear, and lor which they have paid most moderate prices three points ot advantage not easily met by rival competitors. This is the time to make your selections betore others more promj.t than yourself have secured the very things jou would have preferred.I t is well, too to get your orders in ahead, so as not to have to wait unduly before getting them tilled, for there is no doubt about it, that when you have selected the materials and have seen bow well they are going to fit, you will be impatient to don them and make your friends a trifle envious. Therefore, se no time; be first in the field, or as nearly Srst as you cau, considering that others have been before you and secure your share ot the fine custom wort done by Mr. J. F Vlaeder. THE CHURCH PIPE ORGAN. 5. Hamilton, Nob. 91 and 93 Fifth Avenne. The eagerly looked-for church pipe organ has rinaliy been placed in the center ot Hamilton's splendid stand. Owing to the vast crowdyesterdayandtbeconsequentnoise and bustle, it was not possible to voice or tune this noble instrument. Lovers of music will, however, be able to enjoy the concerts to be given upon it this afternoon and even ing, as the workmen were prepared to work all last night, if necessary, to get it iu readmess. Eater a lull description of this latest achievement of Mr. Hamilton in making it a matter of course that all musical instruments can be supplied by him, will follow in these columns. In Public Favor. Not only the beautiful wire exhibit in main hall, of Taylor & Dean, Nos. 201, 203 and 205 Market street, but the solid manu factures for which they are noted. The list ot these iatter is immense fire escapes and iron shutters, store fixtures, bank work, jail work, iron shutters aud doors, vases and stable fittings and fencing, railing and grills lor every possible place and purpose. Fall Openlne Of millinery at C. A. Simpson & Co.'s, 618 Pcnn avenue, Tnuriay to Saturday, Sep tember 25, 26 and 27. Also, large display of handkerchiefs at attractive prices, ti Nek's cloves, dressy pique, embroidered backs, special value $1 and 51 50. Higher grades to $2 CO per pair. Jos. Horne & Co.'s Penn Avenue Stores. EXPOSITION PEOPLE LEAVE, And Call nt K'eber Bro..' After viewing the splendid sights at the Exposition most of the visitors (who mean business) call at H. Kleber & Bro.'s, 506 Wood street, and select one of their superior Eianos and organs. They know in their earts that to make a fine show is one thing and to give people the very finest instru ments at the price of the common second class goods is quite another thing. The Messrs. Kleber & Bro. enjoy the fullest con fidence of the public, and whether they ex hibit or not, whether they hold forth on the principal business street ot Pittsburg, Wood street, or in Diamond or "Virgin alley, the public will seek them out and congratu late themselves that they have found out the place which is utterly safe and reliable, and above the sharp tricks of new houses which have come in at the eleventh hour, and which have to rely upon thecredulity of the public to get rid of their goods using clubs and other knock-down arguments to bull doze their callers into buying their inferior wares articles which the Kleber Bros, had long since rejected as unworthy of being associated with their honorable record and name. Such pianos as Stein way's Conover's, Opera, Gabler, Emerson, and .organs such as the great Vocations. Earhuff dust-proof and Burdett, cannot be duplicated in this country. Klebers' give an 8-year warrantee and sell ou easy time payments. Itlellor tfc Hoene' Grand Display of Flanoi and Orson. When you speak of the splendid instru ments carried by this firm, established in 1831, everybody knows what youare talking about, for the thousands of pianos and organs which have been placed byMellor & Hoene in homes, churches and lodges, have given such unqualified satisfaction that it is an open secret that they are the people to deal with if you want the very hest the market affords. Take for instance the Hardman pianos that have played them selves right into the hearts of the people, wonderful instruments of great power and tone and phenomenal durability, and from their peculiar construction a perfect action that is perforce last ing. Then there are the Krakauer Bros. pianos, noted for their beautiful singing tone, elegant cases, great durability and ex quisite touch; surely recommendations to make any piano popular. Besides these there are the other high-grade pianos made by Vose & Sons, with their pure, rich and sympathetic tone, combined with great power; and there are still others. Mr. Hoene has been a lifelong practical piano maker, and Mr. Mellor's reputation as judge and critic in matters musical is too widespread to require comment, but they are good and sufficient reasons for their handling only the best whether it be pianos and organs, or that other charming instru ment, the self-playing JEolian.
