The new structure is located near the Eun- gard gas station west of Spring Mills. The mall passenger route between Centre Hall post office and the rail | road station has been vacated through the resignation of Lewis H Garbrick, who served for about one year. Sealed bids for the route must b® in the hands of Centre Hall post- master by Sept. 3. Mr. and Mrs. R. 8. Jamison, of Centre Hall, are back from their vaciition trip through the New Eng- land States, going as far north as Portland, Maine. They devoted most of thelr time to viewing historical points in the cultural sections pass- ad through which afforded them much pleasure Mrs. Charles Pragier, of Penns Cave area, continues to suffer from injuries sustained on July 4th when & nickel fire-cracker exploded, sprinkling her body with pieces of wood. some of which penetrated deeply. The injury stubbornly refus- ing to heal is on the left leg below the knee, and requires frequent sur gical attention. A caravan of twelve cars bearing forty-two children from the Evan- gelical Orphanage, Lewisburg, were guests of the Lewisburg Lions Club on a trip through Penns Valley to the top of Nittany Mountain where they made a brief stop to view the valley, and then went on to visit the Pleasant Gap fish hatchery, the Big Spring, and on to Hecla Park where they had dinner Jerre Shunk, of Port Matilda, hung his car on the anchor post of a guard fence along Route 53, a bit west of Old Fort hotel last Wednes- day evening. Jerre, who is a retired railroad trackman, had been at Spring Mills where he had lived prior to moving to Port Matilda, and on the way home got mixed up with the heavy guard posts. No one of the several passengers in the car were injured. Private building in State College reached a new high when 44 build- Ing permits were issued during the first seven months of this year Es- timated cost for this work was set at $320400. Alterations for private and business buildings totaled $70.- 162 until August 1, and new business establishments contructed in the borough during this same period amounted to $76,900. No one was injured. James Poust, a Hagan garage employe, righted the car with the aid of a wrecker while rain was falling at a terrific rate. The next morning the Ford coach was removed. H. E. Bierly. of Tallahasse, Fla. has leased several quarry properties in Penns and Brush Valleys. The first of these is on the farm land of R. P. Grazier, just north of the Millheim Narrows, where operations fre now in progress, quarrying a high grade of limestone. The other quarry recently leased is the Spig- elmyer quarry, in the southern part of the borough. near the Millheim Hoslery Mill, where operations will begin within a few weeks. It is Mr. Bierly's intention to supply farm- ers in this seetion of the county with a high grade of lime for sweet- ening farm lands, Fire believed to have been caused by sparks from the chimney dam- sged the roof of the dwelling house of Major and Mrs. H. L. Curtin at Curtin, last Priday afternoon about 1:15 o'clock. The blaze was discover- ¢#d by Major Curtin’s son, Bud Cur- tin, who noticed that the dry grass fn the vicinity of the house was ablaze and saw at the same time that the roof was on fire. A passing motorist saw the blaze at the same time and turned in an alarm but in the meantime neighbors arrived at the scene and had it under control Before much damage was done to the interior. A hole about 15 feet Square was burned in the roof in the vicinity of the chimney. Damage was estimated at about $150 and is covered by insurance. Clayton Haines found the animal this Iaal spring as a baby. He took it home and eared for it. It grew up to be quite & curiosity. Of late it had started to dig a hole for its winter home. He left it out of its cage but ft would return. It's too bad it was killed for we all were watching what the animal would do next Some farmers complain that the grub worms are destroying a lot of potatoes.
