Ward, on East Curtin Street. Mrs. Ward, who suffered a fracture of the hip recently, Is re- ported to be recovering as rapidly as can be expected. Returning home they were accompanied by Mrs. Agnes Culver of Axemann, who expects to visit with them for a few days and also spend some time in Williams- port before returning home —Postmaster George R. Meek yesterday reported that so far in the current drive to replace old and broken mal] boxes with new ones of gtandard design, a total of 210 pa- trons along the rural routes served the Bellefonte postoffice have se- cured new boxes. This number rep- resents a considerable per centage of the total number of local patrons, indicating a widespread interest In the effort to renew and standardize | mail boxes. —Ralph Poorman, son of Mr. and Mis. Mrs. Edward Miller and Mrs. Roy Jones are delegates from the Legion Auxillary ai the convention. ~Mrs. Malcolm Wetzler, of Miles- burg, widely known through this area, who has been in poor health for some weeks, is reported to be showing slight improvement at this time. Although Mrs. Wetzler is not confined to bed she has been direct ed to curtail her many activities and has been advised to rest as much as possible in order to regain strength. They were on their way to attend the Howard Homecoming festivities and were fol- lowing another machine when Mr Moerschbacher decided to pass the car ahead. As he was about to pull around the machine, he saw a horse and wagon, carrying no lights, ap- proaching from the opposite direc tion. He applied the bakes and in swerving to avoid a collision, struck the tree. The car was badly damag- former well Since Sunday Centre county has been sweltering under the highest temperatures experienced this sum- mer, and there is apparently no re- lef in sight. Beginning Monday the mercury neared 90 in the shade, and on Tuesday afternoon the thermom- eter in the shade in front of the Olewine hardware store went to 95 degrees. Yesierday brought an al- most imperceptible improvement, with a few scanty showers afford- ing relief for a short time. However, with Labor Day only two weeks dis tant, it won't be jong until a little fire in the furnace will be welcome in the evenings.
