Contracted with some of the recent tumultuous sessions today' stock market was a very tame nffolr. There was n pronounced curtailment in tlio voluera of buslnes. which wn nttrltmtcd to sereral in fluences. Most potent of which was in terrupted irc (service because of the severe storm in the Middle West nnd the more or less confusion created by the adoption of the daylight time. Another contributes influence of restraint could be found in the digestion process. The extensive profit-taking in tho latter part of last week unquestionably neces sitated considerable adjustments, wbich alone could bo counted upon keeping the surface of market uneven. Apart from the gold arrivals there was nothing in the week-end develop ments to encourage n resumption of the boisterous trading In the pool issues. A closer analysis of the bank state ments failed to disclose any tangible evidence indicating essential change In money market conditions. The renewal rote for call loans was fixed at S per cent but the demand was light. At the same time British exchange after easing off at the opening rallied almost to last week s high quotation. After the higher opening price move ments were extremely irregular and the trading "spotty." which, however, was in line with the highly professional cali bre of the trading. Itecent favorites, such as General Motors, Crucible Stool and Baldwin Locomotive, were under pressure during the most of the morn ing at declines of 3 to tl points, while Sttitz Motor reacted stcadjly to .'100, a loss of 18 points, l'rouounced strength, however, was shown by Chandler Mo tors. American Car and Foundry, Mexi can Petroleum and the shippings. The latter having been the feature of the opening. The rails also hardened, but abide from Reading made little head way. Demonstrating the erratic char acter of the martlet, a little after tho mid-day session n vigorous demand de veloped for Crucible Steel, bringing a spirited advance of almost 1- points from its low price of the morning. At the same time Stutz Motor scored more thau full recovery. Otherwise changes were irregular, some equipments and specialties reacting 1! to 4 points. The volume of business dur ing the first forty-flro'mlnutcs of the trading was the smallest witnessed for some time. More than two; thirds of the local list failed to register a transac tion during this enrlv period, and those few fortunate enough to receive atten tion were cither bought or sold in smnll odd lots. About the only scrablanco of activity was found in the.Insurancc Company of North America full pa,id receipts, which advanced V, point to 28. while the old alnrk sold nfc 20. TJnFted Gas Im provement was firm at n0V. Union Traction moved up to 33 and Phil adelphia Electric held at par. In all these the transactions were less than 100 shares, so that tho market could hardly bo taken seriously. The flatness of the market was dis appointing In some ways, but there waB really nothing in tho over-Sunday de velopments of sufficient influcuco to bring about material change in the general conditions prevailing in tho lo cal market. It is generally recognized in more conservative circles that until money conditions become decidedly easier there is little possibility of wid ening market interest. ft ft lft ft ?t ft ft 'ft ft lft Ex-dlvldend.
