Denial that any group of organized workers, pos scssess an inherent right to strike is contained in a memorial to Congress, formulated nt a conference here of rep resentatives of four large farmers' or ganizations, the Xational Grange, the American Farm Bureau Federation, tho Cotton States Board and the Associa tion of StaU Farmers' Union Presi dents. In view of "recent events and hap penings." representatives of the four or ganizations said it was agreed that the attitude of the farmer membership of their associations on the right to strike should be made plain to Congress and to the country. "Xo Right to StMrvo rcople" Pointing out that tho city population of the nation is dependent on the farm er for food, and that interruption of that supply can be brought about through strikes of railroad or other transportation unions, the memorial as serts : "Those who believe that labor has an inherent right to organize n strike be lieve that such organizations have, n right tn starve the people of the cities to death, on the one hand, and to de stroy the property of the farmers on the other. X'o such right has ever ex-. istcd and n6 such right exists now. It is ecouomically unsound and the Amer ican people can and will work some other method for the settlement of such controersies. No set of men has ever had the moral or legal right to destroy property or cause ,suHering by con spiring together and the welfare of all the people must ever remain superior to that of any class or group of people. Would Bo Condemned "That would bo the verdict of the people if tho farmers of the United States should suddenly decide to go on n strike and refuse to supply the wants and needs of those who are not in n position to produce food nnd clothing for themselves. They would be con demned from one end of tho country tn the other and the fact would be pointed out that they, as the owners and tillers of the land, had no right, cither moral or legal, to bring about such a calamity. "If the farmers who own and occupy the land have no such moral or legal right, then why should it be conceded by any one that those who handle the farmers' products have a right to block the transportation or industrial facil ities of the country and thus jeopardize the food and clothing supply of the nation. If the farmers have no such rights, those who handle their products have no such rights." .READERS' VIEWPOINT Letters to the Editor on Current Topics 714 20 34 40 2Pi 40 Captain. Years ago, whin this ordinanco was enforced, f, like thousands of others, faithfully com piled, onlv to bo rewarded a few moments later by having tho snow and Ice forced back again by the wagons making tho e-uttera in the same condition, and then comes the nollco to order you to clear out the gutters, altnougn you nave none to several times that same day.
