FIAT DOING WELL Big Italian Company Exhibiting a Post-Bellum Renaissance A post-war Ttenaissance might well be attributed to the Fiat, for during the world war the Italian company had important tasks that precluded manu facturing for passtngcr car sale. This largest motorcar factory in Europe is now suppljing care in quan tity, and America is getting its share. New models arc offered, but others are to follow. . , , The present offerings include three models only, each with open and closed types, respectively, with wheel bases Ct Ili inenes, 1-v mcuca ""' "- inches. , , ' The two smaller models use a four cylinder of comparatively small bore and long stroke, judged by American standard, and the largest model is a six -cylinder car, oT small bore and long stroke. This ear they have added the new Urban-Sedan, departing from the con ventionalism in design and finish. It strikes a new note in bodj designing aud construction. The glass partition behind the driver's seat drops out of sight, turn ing the formal Urban-Sedan into a touring sedan. STICK TO OLD STYLE Hupmobile Puts Good Series, Known as "R," on the Market The Hupmobile, made for the last eleven jears, presents its scries "It" line of cars, including a five-passenger touring, two-passeuger roadster, fivc passeuger sednu and four-passenger coupe. . It is a four -cylinder car, in which respect it stands as consistently adher ing ro that t.vpe of construction which continues to have a laige following. Its makers have always prided them selves on producing a good-looking car, i coupled with comfort, economy and serviceability. In their new series they 'hive paid particular attention to en hancing the uppearance of the car, not only in design but in nnisli and appointments. Valve-ln-Hcad, Six-Cylinder Motor Retained in Bulck Machine Another vahje-in-hcad. six-cylinder motor i adhered to by the Buick Co., one of the largest manufactures, again this year, as conducive to nil-round utility. This company has been making cars for nearly twenty years. Some minor refinements are noted in the l!)-0 line. The absence of radical departures in, manufacture and design hns made possible the up-building of the Buiek car as a thoroughly consist ent whole, the designing effort being evenly distributed over the entire car every seasou. So no detail of its com plete utility should be slighted. liuiek cars have been developed; not redesigned. CLAIM BIG ADVANCE' 100-Polnt Improvement, Say Makers of the 1920 King Eight The 1020 King Eight presents a de cidedly new model over anything they have heretofore offered. The manufac turers claim 100 points of improvement in design, construction and equipment. It is in design mainly that the observer will note the changes in the four body types touring, foursome, limoudan aud the road king, a roadster. The latter is less changed than the other three. The touring and foursome bodies are a radical departure from the present stjles. They resemble the speedy destrojer or torpedo. REPUTATION ASSURED Essex Fixture In Automobile Market In Spite of Recent Debut Biought out about a year ago, the Essex has already established a reputa tion for itself, the first year's produc tion being in excess of 20,000. It is a product of Iludsou engineers in the Hudson factory, along the lines of economy of operation, low initial cost and small depreciation, combined with a high conception of beauty, com fort, easy riding aud ample power- During its first year the designers have found certain refinements and im provements that would make it a more satisfactory car, and these ore incor porated in the output for this year. NEW IMPRESSION Velie Represents Good Example of the Latest Style Tendency The new Velie represents an authori tative example of the new style tend ency. The combination of mirror-like planes that flow into each other give a new expression to the design of motor cars. This car will not be mistaken for any other because it is distinctive. Its new body is longer and more com fortable, wide, deep seats and cushions, with sample room, eliminating nl possi bility of being crowded. The octagonal effect of the body is carried out even to the fenders, lamps and radiator. CONGEALED or frozen oil in the crank case is the cause of many Winter motoring troubles.
