REACTIONARY CURRENTS EXTENDED TO THE LOCALS United Gas Improvement Continued Extremely Weak, Malting a New Low Lcilel at 55 1-4 Week's Trading More Orderly Derided reactionary tendency also developed In the local market. The selling nt the. outset woa on u moderate scale, but ns the , 'session progressed the dowiiwnrd swing, became more ex tended. The wider declines naturally occurred In the hlnh-lirlced specialties. ThP'entirc list, however, worked grnd-J unlly to n lower level. The decline was not the result of nny ndverso local development, but was entirely provoked by sympathetic iu tlucnco of the wide declines In the New York market. United Qas 'Improvement was again the outstanding weak feature. The stock wasVuiidcr persistent pressure, forcing the stock down 'to n new low' level utCHYi, an overnight loss of over, $2 and iiinking the net decline for the week nearly $4. As stated, the wide declines occurred In the higVpriced sjiecinlties.- The demand for these shares was found to bo very limited, resulting in n decline of $5 in (leneral Asphalt common to 1.'12, nnd $2 In the preferred to 200. These prices nre ?2;i and $30, respect ively, under the recent high record prices. Electric Storage Eattery nt the snmo time was forced down '?! on fairly liberal offerings to 144. The recessions in the other local stocks were generally confined to frac tional limits. Luke Superior Corpora tion yielded to 22K j Keystone Tele phone to 12: Philadelphia llnpltl Tran sit to 2814, Cramps was the only slock to show a gnln and on email transactions advanced $2 to 212. The week's trading iu the local mnrket was more orderly than experi enced in a long time. This was largely the result of the cessation of the fran tic upbiddlng of the high-priced specialties, which had held the foremost attention of the locnl contingent. The sidetracking of the General As phalt movement was iu a measure some surprise. Tlie sudden evaporation of speculative Interest In these shares was equally mysterious ns the recent violent forward movement. At times the market for these shnrfs was conspicu ously thin, necessitating material sacri fice in price to execute selling orders. Af it., tlinn Itmvpi'M -was either the common or preferred pressed for sale. v The more urgent demand for Electric Stornge Pottery also for the time ap pears to have been satisfied. Accord ing to the board reports, however, the buying is still much better than the selling. One of the discouraging developments was the continued liquidating movement in United (ins Improvement. Nothing ns yet has come to the surface to explain the weakness of this former semi-Investment locnl favorite. While the selling, has at no time been urgent, still the. stock appeared to be fed out constantly, forcing the price to the lowest level reached in years. NEW YORK COFFEE MARKET New York, Oct. 25!
