Bar silver teas unchanged In Xcw York and London. NBW YORK, Nov. 10. Tlio prlco movement liich occurred In tlio stock market In the courso of tho day's trading did not reflect the Improved conditions which must havo been created by tho manner In which tho subscriptions to tho Liberty Loan woro handled. Tor omo weeks past Important banking Interests had been called on to devoto most of their attention to this hugo llnnnclng, and with tho payment yesterday of around $1,000,000,000 to tho Government there was no disturbance of banking conditions, and apprehension over a dlsturbanco of tho money mar ket proved to bo wholly unfounded. It Is now to bo assumed that other financing connected Uth tho Govern ment will bo arranged In ttto mmc tmooth manner and that the payments for tho various Installments of bond bubscrlptlons will bo effected without any un eett)emcnt of banking conditions. This removes all grounds for fear over tho financial outlook and should make tho market for tccurltlcs of all classea far stronger than la at present Indicated on tho surface. Prlco movements today wcro Irregular. Somo Industrials mado advances, whllo the railroad list was heavy, with somo of them wustalnlng severo losses on a small amount of trading. Uut this Irregularity may be considered Inci dental to an adjustment of fading conditions to the new rules adopted by tlio Stock Exchange, which prohibit concerted operations for bear nccounts, leaving tho market without tho support which has often como from covering of shorts, when moderate liquidation occurred. Marino preferred was among tho strong features, showing u good rallying tendency, and thero was a steady demand for nearly all the steel Industrials throughout tho day, but tho volume of business was imall, tho buying being chiefly of a cash character, representing largo and small Investment orders, uhllo tho selling consisted of what tho Street designated as dribbling liquidation. Trading In tho Liberty Loan was again on a largo scale, with the 4s, which sold yesterday at 99.50, doclinlng to 9S.74, and tho 34s .sold down to 99, but later rallied. Decreased Net Earnings Cause Drop in Coppers Tho continued decline In prices for the porphyry copper htocks Is the result of decreased net earnings, particularly In the case of Utah and tho growing belief of future modification In dividend rates. Copper stocks, generally, have struck a snag from which competent Judges feel thoy will find tamo difficulty In extracting themselves. Tho old public favor toward these metals 8oem3 to have waned. Thero appears to bo no lot-up to the troubles of tho various express com panies. It comes to light now that tho Adams is experiencing considerable difficulty in controlling operating costs. It was obvious all along that this com pany's dividend was slated for a reduction, so the announced quarterly rato of $1 per rhare was not unexpected in well Informed circles. The previous rato was $1.50. Tho announcement that the United States Government had ordered 100,000,000 ounces of silver from tho various smelters of tho country, 40 per cent of which will go to tho account of Great Britain and all of which Is to be delivered during 1918 at a price said to approximate $1 an ounce, will undoubtedly havo a decidedly bullish Influence on quotations In tho future. Current quotations aro around 87 cents. Obviously tho price will go higher If an analysis of tho general tllver situation can bo used us a basis. Tho amount now contracted for by this country approximates tho total annual pro duction of tho United States and In tho opinion of authorities will result In a great scarcity of tho metal during the coming year. Tho United States has been a good buyer of tho metal all along and this has constituted one of tho mainstays of tho market. Mexican Silver Deal Falls Through Not long ago tho Government mado arrangements to buy 6,000,000 tllver pesos from Mexico, payment of which was to bo mado In gold, but negotiations failed to go through because It was discovered that tho Mexican authorities had no such available stock. This made It necessary for tho minting requirements to be furnished from the open market, which was the primary cause for tho largo contract just announced. It Is admitted that much of the amount allotted to Great Britain will find Its way Into India and help relieve the shortage there, but evidences are that China will shortly como into tho market on a large bcale, as representatives of that country hero havo been putting out feelers lately. During Juno the avcrago price was 77.03 cents an ounce; In July, 77.78 cents; In August, 85.CS cents; In September, 100.74 cents, and in October, 87.34 cents. After developing considerable flrnincbs on the strength In tome securities, higher prices for oats, extremely light receipts and poor quality of arrivals, following easi ness, tho corn market sagged from tho top today. The trade was much disturbed early In the session by the aggressive attitude of the food administration against high prices and overtrading, but coerIng of shorts, in December, forced a sharp bulge In that delivery and it had a sympathetic Influence on the deferred futures. Stop orders were numerous, and tho market ran Into every small turn. There was a good deal of profit taking, bringing about recessions. Cash corn was firm In all positions, with offers small. It was said, however, that the Government had ordered 6000 freight cars Into tho Belt to hurry low grades to points of shipment. On this account there was a disposition to look fpr larger re Exports of corn from the United States for the week, 362,808 bushels, against 562, 619 bushels last year.
