The New York Herald gives the follow- . ac4 , 1 01-4. l r i t fight , .. o q4ch took placelini ) r n TOMO morn ing: TILE MEND. William Parkirnsin is a Welffhman; andi a puddler by profession. Pie worked in an iron foundry at Tamaqua, Pa. Hole thirty four years of age, five feet three and a half inches in height, and weighed one hundred and eleven and a half pounds. It is stated thiffiParkinsbn has fought severalitirnes In the English ring, and left a good record be hind hint for gameness and good , behavior.• His battles in the Old Country were with White, McNulty, Tibbetts, Mason end . Bed. worth, of Dudley, the latter being for £so.a side. Ho says that he beat all his men, with the exception of White, with whom he made a draw the police having in terfered and put a stop to the affair, while the tide of victory was flow ing in his favor. Parkinson came to this country about four years ago, and tired- hard to get a match with Johnny Hickey, but was unsuccessful. He then endeavored to get a fight with Keating, but was again disappointed. He then made overtures to Dick Hollywood but the little type-sticker could not be coaxed into a match. After offering to fight any one hundred and twelve pound man in the country without finding a customer, Park inson went to the coal regions of Pennsyl: yenta, where he had been employed quietly until the day of the fight between Sam Collver and Johnny McGlade, when, meet ing with Kelley on that occasion and ex pressing a desire to appear once more in the prize ring, a match was made between them on the spot, and he immediately went into training at Pottsville, under the men torship of Ed. Williams, the pedestrian, who to his credit, brought Parkinson to the scratch in most capital condition. Thomas Kelly is a native of St. John, New Brunswick, and has lived in Phila delphia for the last eight years. He is five feet five inches in height, and weighed one hundred and nine and one-half pounds. He had fought twice previously. His first fight was with Adam Erfort, twenty-seven rounds, one hour and twenty-seven min utes, in 1855, under the assumed name of "Hastings' Kid," and his second under that of "Buckshot," thirty rounds in one hour. He won the above matches easily. Kelly is twenty-three years old. He was trained by Mike Carr, at Point Breeze, Philadelphia, and was brought to the scratch in as line condition as ever man ap peared In the ring. THE Frain. As the men faced each other and placed themselves in lighting attitude the peculiar positions were very striking. Parkinson had a very neat and stylish attitude, with groat elasticity of movement in the lower extremities. Ho held his hands well up, with his elbows clo- e to his sides, and moved about with a springy and buoyant grace. Kelly, on the other hand, presented a grotesque attitude. His left shoulder was raised in such an ungainly manner that it concealed nearly the whole of the loft side of his head. His left hand he held high and fur extended, with his right lying on his breast. Ile came up gri no ing savagely, and seemed determined to eo in memo operations ;it once. Parkinson made fei n t and stepped Lack, Kelly following quickly, and soon they both let go their left hands at the face, but both were short. Parkinson then step ped away, but being followed closely again made another feint, though before he got away Kelly was with him, and they coun tered together with their left hands, Kelly getting on the mouth, drawing first blood, Parkinson on the forehead. holly continu ed forcing the fighting, and several left and right handers followed, Kelly getting again on the mouth heavily and Parkinson on the nosesllghtly. They then had a slight clinch, but Kelly broke away and lilt Parkinson a sounderiwith the left hand. Kelly forced the pace and put in another with his left on the mouth, and then the Welshman Manticl smartly with his right on Kelly's left cheek, but scarcely left his mark. They then broke away for the moment, Parkin son making one of his pretty shifts ; but he was not permitted to be idle long. Kelly made another rush, and, missing his left hand, put In a tetrille right bander on the left side of Parkinson's head that made him reel. Kelly. followed him up and received a left-hander on the rinse; but ho In return planted his left again on Park 1118011'h) 1110lIth, drawing more blood. Kelly also missed his left and right at the head while Parkinson seemed con fused In his endeavors to get away. An overreaching right Minder of Kelly's, which passed over Parkinson's head, brought thorn to close quarters, when Parkinson seized Kelly by the left leg,Just above the knee, on the Inside, and held on there until the referee was appealed to with cries of "ford." Parkinson then slipped his hand further up and hold Kelly by the breeches, endeavoring to throw him. Kelly did not struggle for the fall, but gathering his strength planted a heavy left hander in the ribs, and was then thrown, Parkinson falling on him. Foul was claimed by the seconds of Kelly, and the referee prompt ly decided that holly had won the light. Great confusion then ensued, the partisans of Kelly rushing into the ring and congrutu latlng, film on his easy victory, while Park inson's friends were calling on the referee to have thb ring cleared and let the light go on. Lazarus then went over and took down the colors, while the Parkinson men were ex postulating with the referee for a reversion of his decision. This, however, that gentle man would not do, and so the affair ended, and the crowd began to disperse. There is no doubt that the foul act of Parkinson was premeditated. A man with his experience in ring matters could never have made such a mistake ; and the presumption is, that find ing himself overmatched he adopted this systeM of bringing to an early close a brittle that must have terminated disastrously to him. The round lasted two minutes, and a more dashing first round has seldom been witnessed in the prize ring. Parkinson seems to have lost all the force he is said to have possessed in his youthful fights, as he could not punish his antagonist. On the (Auer hand, Kelly is a heavy hitter with both hands ; and us he seems to have plenty of pluck, he will be found a hard customer for the best of the feather weights. The old adage of" Youth will be served" was proved to be correct on the above occasion. General Markel died in Pittsburg on Sun day, at the advanced age of 92 years. lie served in the Whiskey Insurrection, in this State, and also in the war of 1812, and was the candidate of the Whig party against the Hon. H. A. Muhlenberg. Since then he has led the life of a private citizen. Ile was highly respected iu the community In which lie lived. ganlttug gottOtgi. REPARATOR CAPILLI Throw away y,,ur false frlzzea, your switches, your wig,— Ceatructive of comfort, and not worth a fig ; Come aged, come youthful, come ugly and fair, And relolce In your own luxuriant hair. PARATOR CAPILLI. For restoring hair upon bald heads (from whatever cause It may have fallen out) and forcing a growth of hair upon the face, It has no equal. It willlorce the beard to grow upon the smoothest face in from flee to eight weeks, or hair upon bald heads in from two to three mouths. A few ignorant practitioners haveas sorted that there 18 nothing that will force or hasten the growth of the hair or beard. Their assertions are false, as thousands of living wit nesses (from their own experience) can bear witness. But many will say, how are we to distinguish the genuine from the spurious? It certainly is difficult, us nine-tenths of the dif ferent Preparations advertised for the hair and heard are entirely worthless, and you may litve already thrown away large amounts In their purchase. To such we would say, try the lteparator Capplill ; it will cost you nothing unless It fully comes up to our representations. If your Druggist does not keep It, send us one dollar and we will forward it, postpaid, together with a receipt fur the money, which will be re fll ued you on application, providing oaths satisfaction is not given.
