From the Washington Globe. Effect of the Gold Region of Cali fornia on the Sandwich Island*. We have befoie ns' the Polynesian, published in Honolulu, from which it would seem that the gold of California is depopulating the neighboring islands of their American and European inhabi tants. The Polynesian is full of advertisements giving notice of the intention of individuals to emi grate to California, and asking persons having deal ings with the emigrating parties to make settle ments ot accounts. The paper says: " The little city of Honolulu has never before# witnessed such an excitement as the gold fever has created. Prob [ably not less than two hundred will leave for Cali fornia in the course of two months, if passages can he procured. There will many mechanics and good citizens leave," <Vc. The paper goes on to urge the people ot the island who remain, to make g.eat exertions to raise provisions on the island, as an extraordinary demand will he created for them in California. There is much intercourse already established be tween the islands and California, although the dis tance is drobably greater than between this city and the latter place. At her residence in Salisbury township, on Fri day, the 15th instant, in the 64th year of her age, Mrs. Abigail relict of Baker, Esq. HARMAN. 3in-35 IN pursuance oi'tlie provisions of the act, entitled “An act to proscribe tbe manner of giving notice of applications for Banks,” and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Pennsyl vania, the President, Directors, and Stockholders of the Lancaster -Hank, hereby give public notice, 1 hat they intend making application to the Legisla ture of Pennsylvania, at the session to commence on the lirst Tuesday of January next, A. D. 1549, for the renewal and extension of their present char ter and act of incorporation, with banking and dis counting privileges, Jor the term of ten years from the first Wednesday im\Jay A. D. 18.51, the date last mentioned being the time to which their pres ent charter is extended. The said corporation is to he continued by the name and style of the Lancaster Bank, and with the same power and privileges which are now en joyed under its present charter and act of incorpo ration, and is to he located in the city of Lancaster. The capital stock of said Bank, as authorized by law, was six hundred thousand dollars, the amount of capital subscribed was Jthree hundred and three thousand nine hundred dollars; and the amount paid in, three hundred thousand and thirty dollars.
