Torquay, the fashionable winter waterlog place ou tbe Seuth coast of England, is At present stirred by a sensation of a most ghastly character. Nearly adjoining Torquay Is tlie smart flililnu ylllsge of Babbloembe. Coeipiou eus for many years among the residents Babbloembe has been Miss Key, au aristo cratic, wealthy aud bandsome unmarried woman of middle age. The lady resided in a palatial villa and was regarded by the families of the fishermen as an angel, be cause of her oharlties, and her accom plishments and entertainments were the envy of most of the fashienable visitors te Torquay. Seme time age Miss Key took into her into her personal service as a valet a young man named Jehn Lee He bad ceme down from Londen, and bei 3 sueh strong testi monials as te worth nnd character from personal friends of the Key family that he found little difficulty in entering tbe ser vioe of the lady. In faet, the bandsome youth deported himself with sueh taet nnd intelligence that be seen preved him self an invaluable protector te his patron from the intolerable lmportinenoo of for tune hunters. Ills duttes finally resolved thomselvog into theso of an escert, and he waited upon his patron where i'i she went. This, of course, started much gossip en the part of the envious and thwarted, and this gossip gradually be came quite exaggerated. Friday night tbe poeplo of Babbloembe were startled by the dlscovery of tlames issuing from the mansion in which Miss Key resides. Tbe villagers went te the soene lu a body, and the coast guard and local police seen get oentrol of the flre from without. Tbey found that tbe mansion bad been so se so eurely olesed, and that the windows and 'loers had all bren ccourely fastoned. An enterance was foreod and tbe Are extinguished. Mlaa Key was found lying upon the parlor tloer dead. Her person was nude, and the body was partly ebarred. An investigation revoaled the facts that her threat had been cut and her skull fractured. Thore were evidences that the lady had been dragged down stairs befere she was killed, and that, prcoedlng all this, and after a terrible struggle in her private apartments, she bad been shamefully ued. All thojewelry and portable valuables belonging te the lady were miBglng. The murder was at oneo set down te jealousy and the robbery was set down as a ruse te misdirect suspicion. Me traoe of Jehn Lee could be found. The country was at onee scoured for him. After an all night search, be was found Saturday morning oencoalcd In a atable net far from the sceno of the murder. A large sum of money and much of the missing Jewelry were found upon bis person, lie was at ence arrested and ebarged with the onnie. He oenfessod his guilt, and fully told the story. He admitted be was au ex-convict aud bad obtained employment lu the sorvieo of Miss Key by means of forged letters. He said be bad fallen in leve with the lady, and having no meaus te secure an acquaintance with her, resorted te tUU deceit for tbe purpose. After he bad been in-lier employ for a time and bad scoured kindly recognition in bis capaelty of valet, bis erder gettinc tbe better of hlB Judgment, he mistook the lady's favor for mere tuau it meaut and ma'le au avowal of leve. Miss Key was horrified, and attempted te correct his felly by showing him that his suit was both hopu hepu less and absurd. He persisted, and Mies Key finally ordered him out of her servies, and aoeuscd him of being a morceuary ad venture. On tbe evening of the murder he forced anotber interview upon his mistress, aud when she again treated bis overtures with oentempt he bocame enraged and attaoked her. Ills passions ence nroused, he lest all control of his moral sense, he eaid ; aud after the assault be struck her seneeless se that she could net interfere with bis escape. When be saw that the blew was apparently fatal he rcsolved te rob the house and flee. After he had g&thered up his plunder he notieed signs of oenBoiousness in his vietim, and then, being desperate, broke in her skull and out her threat. It then oceurred te him te drag the remainB down stairs, oleso the doers and windows and fire the house, In the hepe of burying the crime in mystery. He belleved that If be oeuld have get out' of the country the crlme would never have been attributed te him. Four of them caught bold of Curry's beat as it drifted past and all were taken en beard, with the exoeption of Arthur Brown, who was tee weak te held en and sank before be oeuld be assisted. The lifeboat was overturned befere it oeuld be again reaohed, and the three remaining, who were entirely helpless, if net already dead,"were washed out and drowned. The five in Curry's beat found them selves adrift and unable te return. Moan Mean time the lighthouse keeper, Henry Hegg, and two men from the island, bearing of the accident, started in pursuit in an open beat and overtook the ethers four miles 'out te sea, and they were all taken safe en beard.
