A curious bet wbieh was made by two Rew Yerkeru one day this week, illus tratep, as well aB possible, the point which has been reached in dressing at the Branch. Daring the afternoon concert at the West Eud, the beu of a wealthy banker appeared in a curieuB combination of clothing whieh attracted attention from everyone. Net te be outdone in this re spect, another yenng fellow immediately repaired te his room, and shortly after wards emerged in an entirely different suit. The coat was a seal brown, with large green cellar trimmed with braid full two inches wide, while the trousere were " pelk dot" but se large were the "dots" that they might easily be mistaken for saucers. His appearance created a general laugh among the people assembled en the varauda, and he indignantly psked one of his friends te explain the cause of it. In reply the young man offered te bet fifty dollars that he dared net enter the dining room that evening in such a dress. The bet was made, and, as it seen became noised about, everybody was looking for him during the dinner hour. The doers of the dining room had hardly epeued when be made his appearance, looking somewhat nervous and shaepisb, but nevertheless dressed in the same suit. After gazing anxiously around the room, as if trying te gather courage for a final effort, he walked boldly down the room, anl took his accustomed seat in the rear It was indeed a victory ever the crowd, and as he walked from the room two or three people applauded bim.
