EAST KHU BEW8 XXDICAX. jugular CorrepeBlenoe Frem tbe Gap The work of reducing the railroad grade at the Gap is at last beginning te show signs of progress. This undertaking, which was began ever a year age has, within the last few months, been progressing rapidly, and if the work continues at this rate, tbe great impedi ment te tbe travel en the read will be re moved, at an earlier date than expected. The aqueduct which is about twenty eight feet in depth, was a successful de vice, for tbe purpose of draining the cut." The part of the "cut" through which the aqueduct is laid has been ther enghly drained and the earth is easily loosened and removed. The grade has been lowered about eight or nine feet below tbe roadbed of the main track for a distance of about two hundred and fifty yards. The earth removed, which is dumped at Eaby's curve, will be used te build a roadbed te lay the new track after the grade is lowered. By this tLe sharp curve at this place will be cut off. About 80 men are new employed here. Progressive Christiana is keeping up with the times as usual. Its energetic citizens are new making preparations te open a select school in Burnbam's new building, te be known as the Christiana institute. It will be opened about the first of September, aud will he under the management of Mrs. Wise- ner and Miss Michner, two competent and efficient lady teachers of considerable experience. The principal will be Mrs. Wisener, who was formerly principal of the academy at Parkesburg ; she will be assisted by Miss Michner and ether teach ers. Thus a long felt waut is filled in this section of the county. Eauffman & Livingstone, hardware mnrnhants and dealers in agricultural im plements, received last week from Russel & Ce., of Massilon, Ohie, a large read engine. They gave it a successful trial en Saturday, and en Monday morning they started for Oxford with a water tank and a large threshing machine attached te it, reaching that point late in tbe afternoon. They will exhibit it at the fair there this week. Baseball appears te be the universal pasttime with young men and boys in this immediate neighborhood. Twe clubs have been formed in Christiana, where Mr. William Barrar takes the belt, and the Pioneer club has been organized at the Gap. J. H. McCaughlin, the telegraph oper ator at Kinzer's telegraph tower, who was badly stunned by lightning recently, has recovered and last week resumed duty. Miss Carrie T Crossen lelt the Gap en Saturday morning for Amity, Orange county, If. Y., where she intends spending tbe summer months with friends. Willis Kent, an empleye of the Chris ana machine shops, had two fingers nearly severed from his left hand en Friday by a circular saw. The citizens of Atglen contemplate or ganizing a G. A. 11. pest at an early date in their borough. Notwithstanding the lateness of spring weather, the crops in this section are looking remarkably well. Anether case of varioleid is reported in Christiana. Daniel Trout died cu Monday morning at a ripe old age. f J j JOtX aOODB.. TKN8U11 11 SKIN CUKE.
