The keepers and owners of hotels in this city held a meeting at the Stevens house, en Saturday evening, te take some action loekine te reform in matters of granting licenses. They claim that tee many per sons arg allowed te sell liqueis in this city and that liceuscs arc granted te persons te keep hotels who have no accommoda tions ana where tbey are net a necessity. A large number of hotel men were present aud much interest seemed te be mauifest fd. The following general pretest, which is intended for presentation te the court, was read aud it seemed te be the sentiment of these present : Te the Honorable .fudge of Quarter Sessions of LancnUer County : We, the undersigned lamlleids, hotel proprietors and citizens of Lancaster city respectfully de pretest te your honorable court as fellows : I. Our hotel aud stabling interests, which represent an investment of no less than half a million dollars, for the accom modation of the nublic, are, deprived, of the trade by your honorable court in grant ing se many hotel aud eating house license te cellars and shops, which have really no accommodation for man aud beabt, except the liquor and beer they have for sale. ii. We have always tiied te live up te the htrict letter of the liquor Law. and consequently you are net able te trace drunkenness aud rewdyism te our places of business. II j. On account of our large investment of capita! we de sincerely pretest te your honorable court against granting beer saloon license te se many places, and especially te prepeity adjoining our li censed hotels. iv. Wc think it entirely unjust in your honorable court te grant hotel license te se many cellars and places who really have no accommodation for the public. v. We de pretest te your honorable court against granting hotel and beer saloon license te persons for places whose proprietors run thmrsaloensasiendczvous ler young men and women te gather, te drink and miugle together, te the detri ment of the morality of the city. VI. We de further call the attention of your honorable court te the constables' quarterly ielum., requiring thorn te ia ia lerm your honorable com t, under oath, whether tbey personally visited the hotels and ealoens of the icspective wards aud round any violation of the liquor law. OBITUARY. uoeda Stelen and Beggy Broken. On Saturday Veterinary Surgeon Jehn Shaub, of Willow street, was driving through the country attending te his prac tice and some time in the evening, after dark, he stepped at the residence of Ilarvey HaverBtick, at Lime Valley, Pequa township, te attend a sick horse. He lefc his team standing in front and while there went te his buggy several times te get medicine. When ready te start home he found that , the team was gene. Mr. Haverstick hitched up and took the doctor te his home. Upen arriv ing there he found that the horse had arrived a short time before ; the animal had the shafts of the buggy and some ether portions te him. Search was then made for the vehicle, which was found in pieces along the read. When the doctor stepped at Mr. Haverstick's he had a large quantity of medicine, a robe, blanket and whip besides a valuable instrument, which he had just received en Saturday, in his buggy. These could net be found, and it is believed that all were stolen. A woman at the heuEe of Mr. Ilaverstick saw two men standing around the horse just before he was missed, but she thought that one was the doctor who was starting home. One of these parties in all probability untied the horse, which they abandoned after stealing the goods. - A Tobacco Man Surprised. Wm. Afllebach is the foreman of J. Mayer Sen's tobacco warehouse aud was recently married. As he is about going te housekeeping the men in his employ decided te give him a present. They purchased an elegant new cook stove with all utensils and presented it te him at neon. Frank Ii. Jieyd, of ibis city, died of apoplexy, or heart disease, at the resi. deuce el his mother iu Steelteu, Dauphin county, last night at 11 o'clock, aged 80 years. He had been in tailing health ler some time past, but was net considered te. be iu a ciitieitl condition. On Thursday morning he went te Steelteu te visit his mother. Iu the afternoon he visited the shops at Steelteu and talked cheeifully with several Lancastrians employed theie. Ou Friday he took his bed aud yesteiday be had a stioke fieiu whieh be died as above stated. Dr. Boyd was a son of the lata S. W. P. Bevd, who was slientf of this county. Lie was beiu and raised en his father's farm at Peter's Cieek, Fulton township. After lcceiviuy a primary education in the dis. trict school and an academical course at the Lititz academy, he read medicine with the Lite Dr. Henry 12. Muhlenberg, or this city, aud graduated iu 1870 as a decl ter of medicine at the Universiry of Penn sylvania, Philadelphia. He commenced te piactice in Urickerville, but remained only a short time. He returned te Lan castci and practiced with Dr. Muhleu berg for two yeais, when he opened an nllice of his own iu tins city and seen attaiued a lucrative practice. He wen the confidence and ailectien of all bis patients, his manner iu the sick room being gentle, hopeful and u'-issuriug. Among his brother practitioners bis talent b were held in high esteem. He wa3 an in vetcrate reader, net only of works per taining te his own profession, but scien tific aud literary works generally. Though possessed of an athletic fiame, and voiding himself net a little ou his physical sticuL'th, he was the victim of a complica tion of diseases which interfered greatly with his usefulness, and seme years age he spent a seaseu iu Flerida te seek a lestoratieu or health. He returned iu im proved couditieu, but never regained his old time physique, gradually growing weaker and finally succumbiug te his fate as above stated. Dentil f a Venerable Lady. Mrs. Aun Bell, long known iu the neigh borhood iu whieh she lived as "Aunty Bell," died en Saturday evening at the icsidonce of Peter W.
