A Kewtmrg Docter Wins ISO',000 en a Sin. gU Hand Cnarges of Fraud. A dispatch from Newburg, N. Y., says : "At midnight but night Dr. Montro Montre ville M. Hedges, a dental surgeon and a sporting man, was arrested here en a bench warrant issued by Jeseph F. Barnard, justice of the supreme court at Pough Peugh Pough keepsie. Hedges gave himself up. The complainant, Francis P. Weed, of this city, charges Hedges and William JL Scott, who is new dying of consumption iu California, with cheating at games and conspiring te defraud. It is stated that the three played a game of poker in this city in June of last year, each betting $150,000 en a single hand, and Weed and- Hedges lest. Weed new charges that the hands were put up by Hedges and Scott, they te divide the winnings. Weed had recently received from the estate of his deceased father a fortune estimated at about $500,000. Of the amount lest it is stated that Weed paid the defendants during the year ever $100, 000, having compromised for $120, 000, and that 810,000 is yet due en an unpaid note. This Weed new desires te avoid paying and has begun attachment proceedings against Hedges and Scott te recover as much as pessible of what they have already re ceived. A house in Newburg, owned by Hedges, has been levied en by the sheriff of the county and an effort is being made te secure valuable trotting horses owned by Hedges, which are new at the races in the West, while legal proceedings have also been begun against Mrs. Hedges and the doctor's boy te secure any property there may be in their names. The affair causes much excitement here, some of the parties being highly connected. There are plenty of tumors of startling developments that may yet come te light. Rioting la Cleveland. Mere men went te work yesterday than day before at the Cleveland rolling mills and two mere departments were started up. Ne violence was offered. Ne dis turbance has been made ether than some shouting by some idlers in the streets as the strikers go te labor. In the main the strikers have been very orderly, and it is doubtful if they are chargeable with the miner street conflicts, which in less excit ing times would pass for mere drunken brawls and attract little notice. The strikers wear badges and no violence has yet been traced te them. When work stepped last night in tbe Cleveland rolling mill the greater portion of the hands were put in railway cars in the yard and sent down town. About 75 Bohemians who live in adjacent districts were formed in line and marched between squads of police numbering'50, te the street cars, an eighth of a mile 'from the mills. Tue streets were filled with people and the police had te clear the way for a passage. When about half way te the cars the mob began a lively fusilade with stones and cinders, aimed at the workmen, but as the excitement increased the elUcers were r!reil at as well. Scarcely any of the offi cers or laborers escaped being hit and many were savcicly cut and bruised. Six of tbe stone throwers, seme wearing strikers' badges, were arrested and ledged in the Central Station. The mayor and heads of the police department held a con sultation in reference te tbe most effective method of preventing a repetition of the outbreak. That peer bedridden. In either case yeu(yill probably require the mechanical' service of one whose business is te de such work. It is scarcely necessary te say te dwellers in the citv, who have already learned something of the various arts of embroidery, that we have a very comprehensive organization for preparing the materials of these arts, and for teaching the arts themselves, from first steps te the most ad vanced. But there are always beginners ; and, as the season of summer leisure aporeacnes, it may be wise te say that very lit tle while given te learning by a fairly apt person is enough te enable her te kill time all sum mer in a delightful and engag ing way. We materials; but'zthe instruction. Our work-room for producing begun embrederies affords precisely the most perfect means of instruction in every class of work ; and Mme. They leek very brightand hand some; Tiew ; but keep neither shape nor color. But our best invitation is te rich and true goods. The queer turn of the season causes us te put down prices suddenly and savagely. The finest Lyens all silk grenadines, glorious with solidity and beauty, are down a dollar, and mere, a yard. Such grenadines are net te be found, except very meagerly, in any ether store in Philadelphia, at anypriee; notwithstanding the recognized fact that our city buys the richest of goods.
