He bad advised the Vigics te accept her, and as seen as they did he gave them permission te send their old steamer back. ?Ir. Wauu stated that the new steamer had been accepted, and that the company would new like te have the money premised. lie also made a verbal statement that Mr. Shcubergcr, having removed te Philadelphia, would like te have his icsignatien accepted, and amo ame amo teon te that effect was carried. The sanitary and police cemmittee re ported that council had ordered High Constable Strowbridge te feed no mere tramps, and in consequence the vagrant bill ler lecding was very small this month. The Penn sylvania Glebe gas light company, of Philadelphia, was represented by C. R. Robinson, and the Columbia gas company by C. II. MeCulleugh, who asked for time as Cel. This morning the mayor had seventeen cases before him. One man who had been very drunk paid costs and was discharged. A second who was running wild in Centre Square in search of a basket which he says was " stelcd" from him, get ten days iu jail. Among the vags was ene who had a head en him something like a bull deg. When he was called up before the mayor he gave his age as " 9G." It was evident that the man was net of sound mind, and he was sent te the workhouse for 20 days. The ethers were all ledgers who were dis charged. Among the number were two clean looking and well dressed young meu, who said they were compelled te seek lodgings as they had no money. One said that until recently he had been employed as a clerk at Windser hotel in New Yerk. After getting out of a job he spent his money freely until it was all and he found himself penniless. His companion also stated that he had a fine position but had left it. Beth looked as if they bad seen better days. Anether ene of the vags was a boy with red hair, .which covered a tre mendous head. County Meeting te Adept Flans te Secure a Constitutional Amendment te Prohibit tbe Liquor Xrlllc. In pursuance of a call of citizens " with out distinction of sex, race, party or de nomination,7' about fifty person, a dozen or mere of whom were ladies, met this morning in Temperance hall, with a view el adopting " such plans as may be deemed advisable te secure from tbe next and suc ceeding Legislatures the submission te the voters of the commonwealth of an amend ment of our state constitution prohibiting the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors for drinking utes aud te organize for such purposes." The meeting was called te 'order by James Black, esq., who stated its objects. Rev. J. Max Hark being called upon conducted the opening devotional exer cises, consisting of prayer and singing. Among these present were Rev. Sylvanus Stall, of St. Jehn's Luthcrau church, Rev. J. B. Seule, of Celeraine Baptist church ; Rev. W. C.Robiusen, of the Duke sticet M. E. church ; Rev. G. W. Fraser, of East Hempfield ; Rev. E. S. Haney, of Strasburg, aud ether well-known adv cites of prohibition. After an earnest prayer by Rev. C. Robinson, Rev. Sylvanus Stall was intro duced and made the address of welcome te the delegates, taking occasion during its delivery te recount many of the untold evils tiiat Hew from intemperance and the blessings which would result from a com plete prohibition of the manufacture and use of intoxicating beverages. James Ulack followed in a bncl address, wheicin he gave a resume of the efforts made by the friends of temperance te abate the cursa of drink, and hew these efforts aud a clearly expressed wish of the majority of the voters had from time te time been thw.utcdand overthrown by the power of the liquor interest. The principal business of the meeting was te pass a series of preambles aud reso lutions, reciting the shameless coriuptien which runs riot at the Republican primary elections, the 'treachery of state and na tional delegates, and declaring that the committee add au additional $1,000 of re wards similar te theso offered by the JYicic Era, appoint a sub-committee of five te enforce the law and te sit for a week after the primaries te hear complaints of fraud. F1KU IN CHRISTIANA. A Kegtaurant Completely Burned Out. On Friday night a fire occurred in the restaurant kept by B. W. Horten in a building owned by Dennis Donebuo, iu the village of Christiana. The fire was discovered about 11 o'clock, after the res taurant had been closed, by some one who was passing by. The alarm was given and it was net long until the whole village was aroused. Every ene responded willingly, and several hundred persons soeu gath ered at the place and went te work te ex tinguish the flames. They succeeded in saving the building, but the whole inside of the building, with the content?, were burned. The buildiug was insured iu the Lancaster county company and the con tents in tbe Chester county company. The less is covered by the insurance. J. Brown, of Philadelphia, while assist ing te extinguish the fire, had a ladder pulled out from under him in the excite ment. He fell through a window and had his hand badly cut. Wm. Helm, who was also busy at work, ran into the burning building and was overcome by smoke. He was carried out aud was unconscious for some time, but scen recovered.
