LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCER, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1881. Lancaster intelligence?. FRIDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 7, 1881. a Remarkable Fiad. y King Lest ea Luckily Beoevered. Mr. J. W. Davis, an attaclue of the United States pension office, at Washing ton, D. C, tells the following story, which the Emporium Independent personally knows te be true : " On Friday evening, "August 26th, while returning from a visit te our relatives in Western Pennsylvania and New Yerk, en the Philadelphia & Erie division of the Pennsylvania railroad, just above Emporium, Pa., my wife saw same ii'.tle children waving their hands at the cars as they flitted past. Thinking te please the little ones, she responded te their salutations by waving her band out of- the car window. Just as she was in the act of thrusting her hand out, wc passed a railroad bridge (Ne. 82) which spans West creek. The bridge struck my wife's fingers, knocked off the ring, aud bruised but net seriously injured, several members, Mr. Wm. Yontz, master car penter, employed in the shops of the Phila delphia fc Erie railroad company, at Renovo. Pa., was in the car at the time of the accident, and, upon learning the facts, said he would try and have the ring found. Immediately subsequent he informed the watchman at the bridge of the case. The watchman, however, failed te find the ring. On the date mentioned, September Gth, Mr. Yontz had personally visited the pein!. indicated, and after a short search, found the ring in the shallow water be neath the bridge." Mr. Yontz returned the ring te Mr. Davis by express, and refused te accept any reward for his trouble, although tbc former gentleman had said he would give any one finding the lest trinket $20. Mr. Davis in his letter announcing the return of the ring further states : "The ring was one given my wife by me when we were engaged, and of course as such was very much prized, and new it has mere value than ever, and you may judge of her delight en the night of receiving the ring, when,, thinking that she was asleep, I slipped the ring en her linger, but as she did net prove te be asleep, of course slie took iu the situation at once. This was the first intimation she had that the ring had been found. We feel under great ob ligations te Mr. Yontz for the kind maimer in whic he has treated us." A Liberal Offer.
