The buildings were neat and clean, and the management appeared te be economi cal and geed. We have examined the fur naces in the hospital and find them out of repair, the heat pipes insecure iu their present condition, and would recommend that both hospital and the department of the insane be heated by steam, as mere se cure against fire and mere economical. In the comity prison we found 138 prisoners 60 convicts, 40 confined for drunkenness and disorderly conduct, and 32 awaiting trial. Last night or very early this morning the safe in the railroad station house at Witmei's htation.en the Pennsylvania rail road, a tew miles east of this city, was blown open and robbed of between $60 and 70 all of which, except about $7, was the personal property of Christian 3Insselm:in, the railroad agent. The rob bery was net discovered until this morning, when 3Ir. 3iussclman went te the office It appears that the thieves first entered the warehouse of 3Ir. 3Iussclmau, which is a short distance from the station house, by breaking the padlock which fastens the freut deer. Frem the warehouse they took a digging iron and a heavy crowbar used for moving cars. With these they forced open the outer and inner doers of 3Ir. Mussclman's office in the station house. They then forced a quarter inch hole into the lock of the new Farrell & Herring safe, lately purchased by 3Ir. Mussehnan, aud charging it with gun powder or some ether explosive, blew off the deer of the safe. With chisels and ether tools they then broke open the inner apartments of the sale- and robbed them of their contents as above stated. The job appears te have bcea done by men who understood their business and were acquainted with the premises. A single hole was bored into the safe just below the point at which the " combination " is made. The hole was bored with a brace and bit ; and the bnue aid two chisels, besides the digging iron and crowbar, were left by the thieves in the office. The explosion appears te have been made while a train of cars was passing, and 3Ir. 3Iussclman, whose residence is net far off, heard nothing of it. 3Ir. Henry Shifter, who also lives near by, states that he heard a loud report about one o'clock, and this was the time preb ably that the safe was exploded. Though 3Ir. Mussel man has seme sus picions as te who the burglars are, no clue te their identity has been ascertained. The police of this city has been notified and Mr. Mussclman says he will pay $25 for the detection and conviction of the thieves. It will be recollected that 3Ir. 3Iusselmau's place was robbed about ten days age of a quantity of flanuel, which was found en the bodies of two tramps who were ar rested and arc new awaiting trial for larceny. match Marcs Sold. L. 31. Gerhart, sheriff of Berks comity, his purchased, en private terms, the pair of black mares that belong te Jehn Den linger, of this city. 3Ir. The weapon by some chance or ether happened te be " cocked" and the trigger catching en his coat sleeve was discharged, narrowly miss ing the barber. The full dress inspection of Ce. Following is the reply of the secretary of war aud post master general te the tieegraph of Docter Hammend : Executive Mansion, Washington, D. C, Dr. Wm. Hammend surgeeu geneial (record), New Yerk city Your kind offer is declined with thanks. We are satisfied with the president's medical attendants and a consultation with eminent surgVbns was held this morning. Signed Kebekt Lincoln, Secretary of War. Tiies. L. James, Postmaster General. Tlie 3icm " Official." Executive Mansion, Washington, Aug. 20, 2:30 p. m. Official. The presi dent continues te de well. He is taking liquid feed by the mouth in increased quantity and with relish. The nutritive enemata are still successfully given, but at longer intervals. His pulse is new 107, temperature 93.4. respiration 18. At the morning dressing the wound was looking well and the pus discharged was of a healthy character. After the operation of August 8th, the llexible tube used te wash out the wound at each dress ing readily followed the track of the ball te the depth of three and a half or four iaches. At the dressing, however, a small quantity of healthy pus came, as was believed, lrem the part of the track beyond this point, either spontaneously or after gentle pressure ever the anterior surface of the right iliac region, but this deeper part of the track was net reached by the tube until yesterday morning when the separation of a small slough permitted it te pass unresisted downward aud for. ward for the distance of twelve and one half inches from the internal surface of the last incision. This facilitates the drainage and the cleansing of the deeper parts of the wound, but has net been followed by any increase in the quantity of pus discharged. The large pus cavity which had formed in the immediate vicinity of the broken rib is filling up with healthy granulations, and the original wound of entrance as for as that cavity has healed. Signed D. W. Bliss, J. K. Barnes, J. J. Woedwaud, Robt. Retbukn, D. Hayes Agnew. Tlie Swollen Gland. New Yeke, Aug. 20. A Washington special te the Ecening Pest, referring te the glandular swelling in the president's case, says : " The surgeons have in their public utterances made light of the new symptoms, but it is ascertained that there is much apprehension about it. They have constantly been using het ex ternal applications te scatter it and te pre rent suppuration, and during the 'night they were especially earnest in their efforts te that end, bat they were net succes?. fal. The situation in short this 'morning is one of hope and uncertainty. The swollen gland creates apprehension and has net yielded te the treatment. If it shall suppurate the surgeons appear te apprehend some results, the nature of which they de net disclose." . Blaine's Bulletin. Washington, Aug. 20. The follow ing hxs just been sent by Secretary Blaine : Lewell, Sfinister, Londen : At 2 o'clock p. m. all reports indi cate that the president's condition is about the same as yesterday.
