These stony altars, they have hurled Oppression Tjack, have kept the been Ot liberty. Boheld hew free The mountains stand eternally : Treasure Trere. A Collection et Itaro Old Coins. At a public hale of old fumiture iu East Fallowfield township, Chester ceuuty Mrs. Margaret Scott, wife of Humphry Scott, esq., bought an old book case for two dollars shb taking a fancy te the ar ticle en account of its great age and an tique appearance remarking that it would be a companion piece te her "grand mother's clock." The book case is a curiosity and much amusement is afforded by its numerous drawers. Tiie former owner thought he had mastered them all, as he had it in his possession for nearly thirty years ; but Mrs. Scott's son found a secret spring .thai opened a drawer that had evidently net been opened for forty years, dlscJesiug 147 old coins, 135 cop pers and 12 small silver pieces, . Seme of the pieces arc of little value, ethers are very old, the dates net legible, while ethers arewcll-piesei vedand te coin collectors aie of great value and rare beauty. Among the most noted are Kes. 1 and 2 two pieces, dale 1787 ; inscrip tien, Epluribus Unuui ; figure, a shield en the reverse, Jfeza Caescra" horse head and a plough. Xe. 3 date, 1783 ; Insciiptitm, Jtisliiia Liberati ; figure, a wreath encircling the letters U.S.; reveise inscription, constel lation flgure, an cye and Sunburst, sur rounded by 13 stirs. Ne. 4 and 5 Twe pieces, date, 17S7 ; inscription. Massachusetts, cnc-ccutfigum, an eagle with spread wings ; reverse in scription, 'Commonwealth ; figure, an Indian with a bow and arrow. Ne. 6, date net legible ; inscription, Washington, figure-head of Washington Reverse, one cent head. Ne. 7, date 1783, inscription " Washing ton and Independence," lUuie medallion head surrounded by a wreath of cars of corn ; revcrse " United States of Amer ica," flgure a wreath surrounding the words one cant. This piece is a beautiful aud perfect specimen of early coinage. Ne. 8, date 1793, insciiptien ' Liberty," figure medallion head of Washington sur rounded by thirteen stars ; reverse, United States of America, chain wreath surround ing the words one cent. This is also a perfect specimen. Ne. 0, date 1774, insctiptiea "Liberty," figure head of Washington; reverse, United States of America, wreath of wheal heads surrounding the words one cent. A geed specimen. Ne. 10, date 1790, inscription "Libeity," figure medallion head of Washington ; 10 vcrsc, "United States of America." wreath of wheat heads, one cent. A very geed specimen. Ne. 11, date 1795, a silver five-cent piece ; insciiptien " Liberty ;" figurehead of Washington surrounded by thiitcen stars ; reverse, " United States of Amer ica," spread eagle surrounded by a wreath. This is a well-preserved and vciy rare coin. Ameinr the ethcis are half cents dated 1800, 1508 and 1S31 : cents of various dates "from 1803 te 183S. An Irish penny of 1781, English half pennies of 1727, 1731. 1732, 1775. 1770, 1777. 1787, 1791. 1792, 1793 and 1797 ; a German coin of 1791 and two Portuguese coins of 1751 and 1702 : Ficneh coins e! fiem 1793 te 1800, and quite a number of very old coins, se much worn that the dates cannot be deciphered. Seme silver coins, of dates 1732 te 1831. tegetaerwith some political medals of the Jacksen and Van Burcn campaigns of 1832 and 1830. The collection, as a whole, is a very geed one, and as it has evidently been buried from sight for mera than forty years, it clearly establishes a fact that incu 50 years age, had as much taste in collecting histeiical coins a1 they have at the present day. But who collected thee coins and se mjstcrieusly buried them from sight, may forever remain an unex plained query. LANCASTER UOCSCHOLD KA3KU1'. DAIV.T. Mutter i lb ..eZ&Z Cun clicei.
