ROBBERIES. —The evil counsels given by copperhead politicians of resisting the due execution of the laws merely because these laws did net meet their views, are producing a natural result in an increase of horse and other thieves to an alarming extent throughout the interior. We hardly open a mail which does not contain an account of some deed of violence, theft, or incendiar ism. In Sinking Valley, Blair county, an individual canie in the morning to the residence of Mr John Crawford, and desired to purchase some stock; but being told by the housekeeper that Mr. C. was away, and that she could not comply with his request, the man took his departure, satisfied, no doubt, that he had gleaned so much information. In the afternoon about three o'clock, the same person renewed his visit, and demanded of the housekeeper a purse belonging to Mr. Crawford. She en deavored to evade the matter, but the wary rogue, suspecting treachery, im mediately chased and caught her; tied her hands, and then east her into a closet, the door of which he closed and fastened upon her. He then went in : search of the purse and other valu- j aides in the rooms of the dwelling, having free scope and liberty to effect his nefarious intentions. He obtained the purse, which.fortunately, contained but an insignificant sum, and then struck for other quarters,'leaving the housekeeper still confined in the closet. From this confinement she was releas ed by Mr Crawford's daughter, who had returned from school. \So tightly had the villain bound her wristsfthat the marks were visible several days after the event. During the same week and in the same Valley, the house of Mr. Smith Wilson was entered after night, and a trunk taken therefrom. The depreda tor conveyed the same to an adjoining field, where he opened it and extracted the sum of S3OO in specie, as also oth er valuables, to the amount of $2500. On the night of the 28th of October, the dwelling house of Messrs. William and Collins Hamer, in Porter township, Huntingdon, was entered and robbed of some three hundred dollars in mon ey, clothing, &c. On Thursday night. 17th inst., the office of the Treasurer of Huntingdon county, was entered and the safe blown open and partially destroyed—the knob and other portions of it striking the ceiling above, and bringing the plastering down in a shower. Other wise the safe and its contents—with the exception of some fifteen or twen ty dollars, all the scamps got for their trouble—were uninjured. None of the papers were disturbed. The millinery establishment of Miss Steirinian, in Alexandria, Huntingdon county, was forcibly entered on Sun day evening, 13th inst., while that lady was attending church and some eight hundred dollars in money and a quan tity of goods stolen. It is evident from this list, which could have been largely increased by similar occurrences in other neighbor ing counties, that persons in the coun try, as well as in towns, having money or other valuables, cannot be too care ful in placing them in safety, as in ad dition to the ordinary thieves, deser ters from the army, draft runaways, rebel spies, and that class who have been taught that there is no wrong in breaking "one law" not to their liking, are abroad, ready for any act of vil lainy. ITEMS. —Hunters continue to bring in an occasional deer from different ! parts of the county. Dr. Belford, Loop, Haghes, &c., returned from San ! dy Ridge, on the Allegheny, last week I with four. Analysis of the Massachusetts State A stayer, January 25, 1858. When evaporated through clean linen it left no oil or offensive matter. In everv res pect it is a PIKE spirituous liquor. The oil which gives to this Brandy its fiavor and aro ma, is wholly unlike fusil, or grain oil. Its odor partakes of both the fruit and oil of grapes \\ ith noi ls, it produces ethers of a high fragrance.
