Wo under stand that ft bill has passed both branches of our Legislature and is now before the Governor, and will no doubt become a law, changing the whole method of collecting taxes' in ,tbi county, and abolishes tho office of tax collector. The bill in question, Authorizes the' county Treasurer to collect the County, Bounty and Slate tax. He is required to spend at least one day in each borough nnd town riiip, of which lime and placo he must give thirty days' notice, In two news papers, and by hand bille posted up at publio places, upon nil Inxes paid to the Treasurer between tho first of Jfny and September there shall bean abate mont of 6 per cent. And upon taxes unpaid nt the lutlcr period, thore shall bo added 5 per font, and the duplicate delivered to the Constable of tho dis triet, who will proceed to collect the taxes aforesaid, as debts of similar amounts are now collected by writs of execution. This law has been in force In Von lingo, Clarion, Jefferson and other counties, for many years and work well.
