FROM CALIFORNIA. Arrivalofthe Northern Light.-- Twomil lionsandaguarterof Goldoniheway.— Important from, China.—The Rebels Nnw York, June 24.—The steamship Northern Light, from San Juan, vyith California dates to the first, being one week, later than the previous ndvices, ar rived here this morning. The Nothern Light brings 400 passen gers, who have a large amount of gold in hapd. The steamship California left San Fran, cisco on the ‘ first instant, with the emails and two million two hundred and eighty three thpusatiddollars in gold oh her man ifost. „ . ' The steamship Brother Jonathan, from San Francisco, lstinst., brought down the passengers who came homo in trie North- The^Nothern Light left New York on the sth of June, at 6 o’clock, P. M ~ and arrived at Kingston, 10th, in the evening, coaled and sailed for San Juan del Norte on the 11th, at,o o’clock P. M., where she arriypd on the 14th, at 7 o’clock, A. M., havipg ipade the passage in eight and a halfdays. Returning, the Northern Light loft San Juan on the 16th of June, at 7 o’clock, P. M., with 400 passengers from California, brought down by the steamship Brother Jonathan, which left San Francisco on the afternoon of the Ist of June. The passen gers crossed the Isthmus in forty hours. The country is healthy, the roads good nnd the rains moderate. Not a shower had, pccurcd during the transit. The river was in good condition, nnd the navigation for steamers was excellent. The Brother Jonathan, in coming out of San Francisco, passed the steamship Golden Gate, clipper ship 3 Sea Serpent nnd Simoon, bound in. Also, in lat. 27 15, lon. 115 20. Passed the whale ship Oliver Crooker, ot Now Bedford, standing Northward. The Northern Light brings among her passengers, Hon. J. B. Kerr, late Charge des Affaires to Nicaragua, lady and two children; J. B. Deval, Esq., proprietor of the Placer Times and Transcript, one of the delegates appointed to represent the State of California at the Crystal Palace Exhibition. . Jamestown, at San Frnncißco from Chiua, brought dates from that place to tho 6th of April, from which wo learn that the rebels were driven from the walls of Nankin, with terrific, slaughter. When the Brother Jonathan sailed from san Francisco, it was rumored that a duel was on the tapis between Senator Gwin and J. WI McCorkle, or San Francisquito Creek, a member of Congress. Thequar rel originated in some ill-natured news paper remarks. The Weapons were rifles. Distance thirty paces. Tho result was not known when the Brother Jonathan sailed. Lola Montez has commenced her Cali fornia career, and appeared four times on the boards of the American. The houses wore crowded. „ The ship President sailed from ban Francisco for Port Philip, with a full freight and about ono hundred passengers. They wore mostly people returning to Australia or citizens of other countries, with but a small number ofCalifornians. The returned Californians from Austra lia make most melancholy statements of their treatment in the El Dorado. All Americans were treated with indig nity there, being openly and grossly insult ed in the streets. , .. The mining accounts are favorable from all sections, without exception. Provisions at the mines-are cheap. The Indians in most sections or the mining districts had ceased to be trouble some.
