A red cheek is an ornament, but a red tlose is hardly s,o. Society will have its little prejudices. „ . • ;, A,gentleman who has been struck by 4 youngladfs beauty has determined to follow the injunction and " kiss the rod that smote him." After a wedding it was formerly a cue iom to diink honey, dissolved in water, for twenty days —a moon's age. Hence the origin of honeymoon. A clergyman of Putnam, Conn., recent ly married a couple on the cars without the other passengers having any knowl edge or suspicion of the transaction. An editor heads his lists of births.mar riages and deaths thus : " Hatched," " Matched," and Despatched." The ras cal deserves to have his face scratched. Paper napkins for table use have just been introduced into the restaurants of Germany. They answer every purpose for one using.—Three of them cost less than a cent. " No man can do anything against his will," said a metaphysician to an Irish man. "By jabbers 1" said Pat, " I had a brother that went to jail, and I knew it was greatly against his will." " No man,"says Mrs. Partington, " was better calculated to judge of pork than my poor husband was. He knew what good hogs were, for he had been brought up with them from his childhood." A.. wag, reading in one of Brigham Young's manifestoes that " the great re sources of Utah are her women," ex claimed : "It is very evident that the Prophet is disposed to husband his re,- sources." A clergyman, consoling a young widow on the death of ber husband, remarked that she could not find another his equal. " I don't know about that," remarked the sobbing fair one ; " but I'll try." "Sam," said one little urchin to anoth er, " does your schoolmaster ever give you any rewards of merit ?" " I s'pose he &es," was the rejoinder; " he gives me a lickin' every day ; and says I merits two." A genileman from the " rooral dees trick" lately went into one of our fashion able restaurants and asked for dinner. The waiter handed him, the bill of fare, when-he "'reckoned he'd rather eat be fore reading." A queer wedding took place in New York a few days ago. A father and a son married"a mother and a daughter— the strange part of it being that the fa ther married the daughter and the mother married the son. North Carolina has another pair of " Siamese Twins." ' These are colored boys, joined together after the manner of Eng and Chang. They were born in Co lumbus county, are in good health, and are intelligent. They are 'about 18 years old. The lady principal of a school, in her advertisement, mentioned her lady assis tant, and the reputation which she bears; but the printer lefkout the word "which;' so the advertisement went forth commend ing the lady's " reputation for teaching she bears." A-Baltidire youth .reared a ladder to the- windOir . Of his buleinea ihe other night, and ascended it on a serenading mission. Her father's big dog rushed at the ladder and overthrew it, landing -the youth in the paternal bedroom •below, froM l which he emerged' shortly just in advance of a bootjack. Lines from a hymn book, which a young lady incautiously left behind her in a chapel ; look In vain—he -does not come ; dear, dear, what shall , I do ! cannot listen as I ought; unless he listens too He might have come as well as not!' What plagues there fellows are ! I'll bet he's fast asleep at home, or smok ing a cigar.' They have been bragging a good deal aboUt big babies lately, but a lady iu Li gonier, Noble county, Indiana, lately per formed a- feat of.an opposite character, which deserves mention. She gave birth• to alive baby last week, weighing only two pounds 1 The diminutive stranger is peace and lively, and perfect in physical structure. A wealthy retired merchant who lives at Yonkers, N. Y., has been following Ol ive Logan for - the last three weeks, and appearing at every one of her lectures. At Burlingtod,' lowa, last Thursday,•he made a formal proposition to her. He left her with tears in his eyes, and it is supposed, therefore, that his suit was not successful. $40,000 ! The Borotigh of Co lumbia 'wishes to borrow• 40:,000,--pop f LLA.."ils - ; -TEN YEARS. Whose sufferings have been protratted from hidden causes, and whose cases reqniro prompt treatment to render existence desirable: If you are suffering, or have antlered, from involun tary discharges, what effect does it produce upon your general health? Do you feel weak, debili tated, easily tired? Does a little extra exertion produce palpitation of the heart? Does your liver, or urinary organs, or your kidneys, fre quently get out of order Is your urine some times thick, milky or flocky, or is it ropy on settling? Or does a thick scum rise to the top? Or is a sediment at the bottom after it has stood awhile? Do you have 'spells of short breathing or dyspepsia? Are your bowels constipated? Do you have spells of fainting, orrusbes of blood to the head? Is your memory impaired? Is your mind constantly .dwelling on this subject? Do you feel dull, listless, moping, tired of com pany-, of life? Do you wish to be left alone, to get away from everybody Does any little thing make you start or jump? Is your sleep broken or restless? Is the lustre of your eye as bril liant? The bloom on your cheek as bright? Do you enjoy yourself in society as well? Do you pursue your business with the same energy? Do you have as much confidence in yourself? Are your spirits dull and flagging, given to fits of melancholy? If so, do not lay it to your, liver or dyspepsia. Have you restleis nights? Your back weak, your knees weak, and have but little appetite, and you attribute this to 'dys pepsia or liver-complaint ? Now, reader, self-abuse, venereal diseases badly cured, and sexual excesses, are all capa ble of producing a weakness of the generative organs. The organs of generation, when in perfect health, make the man. Did you ever think that those bold, defiant, energetic, perse -vering, successful business men are always those whose generative organs arc in perfect health? You never hear such men complain of being melancholy, ofnervousness, of palpitation of the heart. They are never afraid they can not succeed in business; they don't become sad and discouraged; they are always polite and pleasant in the company. of ladles, and look you and them right in the face—none of your down cast looks or any other meanness about them. I do not mean those who keep the organs infla ted by running to excess. These will not only ruin their constitutions, but also those they do business with or for. How many men, from badly cured - diseases, from the effects of self-abuse and excesses, have brought about that state of weakness in those organs that has reduced -the general system so much as to induce almost every other disease— idiocy, lunacy, paralysis, spinal affections, sui cide, and almost every other form of disease which humanity is heir to, and the real cause of the trouble scarcely ever suspected, and have doctored forUll but the right one. Diseases of these organs require the use of a Diuretic. HELMBOLD'S FLUID EXTRACT BUCHU is the great Diuretic, and is a certain cure for diseases of the Bladder, Kidneys, Grav el, Dropsy, Organic Weakness, Female Com plaints, General Debility, and all diseases of the Urinary Organs, whether existing in Male 01 Female, from whatever cause originating, and no matter of how long standing.
