" Yes, I remember that anecdote," the Sunday scool superintendent said with tho old pathos in his voice and the old sad look in his eyes. "It was about a simple creature named Higgins, that used to haul rock fOr old Maltby. When the lamented Judge Bagley tripped and fell down the court-house steps and broke his nets, it was a great question bow to break the news to poor Mrs. Bagley. But finally the body was put into Higgins' wagon, and he was instructed to take it to Mrs. 8., but be very guarded and discreet in his language, and not break the news to her at once, but do it gradually and gen tly. When Higgins got there with his sad freight, he shouted till Mrs Bagley came to the door. Then he said : " Does the widder Bagley live here ?" " The widow Bagley ? No Sir I" "I'll bet she does. But have it your own way. " Well, does Judge Bagley live here ?" " Yes, Judge Bagley lives here." " I'll bet he don't. But never mind— it ain't for me to contradict. Is the Tadge in?" "No, not at present." " I jest expected as much. Because, you know—take hold o' suthin, mum, for I'm a goin' to make a little communica tion, and I reckon may be it'll jar you some. There's been an accident mum. I've got the old Judge curled up out here in the wagon—and when you see him you'll acknowledge yourself, that an in quist is about the only thing that could be a comfort to him !" SalTrartlistake. " Sally, don't I like you ?" " LarlJim,l reckon so." " But - don't you know it, Sally ? Don't you think I'd tear the eyes out of any honest tom-cat that dares to look at yon for a second 1" " I s'pect you would." " Well, the fact of it is, Sally, I—" " 0, now don't Jim I you're too sud den." " And, Sally, I want yen to—" "Don't say any thing more now, Jim I will—" "But it must be done immediately ; I - want you to—" "0, hush ! don't say any more." "I want you tonight to get—,' " What ! so soon* ? 0, no, impossible ! Father and mother would be so angry at me." " How•?- be mad for doing me such a favor as "to ra.--"- " Yes, dear me 1 0, what a feeling I" " But there is some mistake, for all I Want to have you do is to—mend my trowsent I" • Sally could hear no more. She threw up her arms, and screaming hysterically, fainted away.. " SAT, Mr. Saline, is der any place in the Bible whar a cullud 'Anson is men tioned ?" said old Cmsar to his friend. " Well, dere is, an' if you'd been to meeen Sunday you'd heard the preacher read how Nigger Demus wanted to be born again." " Wh'-wh'-what he want to be born again for ?" " I dunno I spec he tonght he might be born a white man next time, an'..dals a good many niggers alike now jai like old Demus, but dey'll allers be niggers, anyhow." Whose sufferings have been • protracted from hidden causes, and whoke cases require'prompt treatment to render existence desirable: Ifyou are suffering, or have suffered; from involun tary discharges, what effect does it produce upon your general health? Do you feel weak, debili tated, easily tired? Does a little extra exertion produce palpitation of the heart? Does your liver, or urinary organs, or your kidneys, fre quently get out of order ? Is your urine some times thick, milky or ilocky, or is it ropy on settling? Or does a thick scum rise to the top? Or is a sediment at the bottom after Alias stood awhile? Do you have spells of short breathing or dyspepsia? Are your bowels constipated? Do you have spells of fainting, or rushes of blood to the head? Is your memory impaired? Is your mind constantly dwelling on this subject? Do you feel dull, listless, moping, tired of com pany, of life? Do you wish to be left alone, to get away from everybody? Does any little thing make you start or jump? Is your sleep broken or restless? Is the lustre of your eye as bril-' Rant? The bloom on your cheek as bright? 'Do you enjoy yourself in society as well? Do you pursue your business with the same energy? Do you have as much confidence in yourself ? 'Are your spirits dull and flagging, given to fits of melancholy? If so, do not lay it to your liVer or dyspepsia. Have you restless nights? Your back weak, your knees weak, and have but little appetite, and you attribute this to dys pepsia or liver-complaint? NOW, reader, self-abuse, venereal diseases badly cured, and sexual excesses, are all capa 'ble of producing a , weakness of the generative organs. • The organs of generation, when in perfect health, make the man. Did you ever think that those bold, defiant, energetic, perse vering, successful business men are always those whose generative organs are in perfect health? Yon never hear such men complain of being melancholy, of nervousness, ofpalpitation of the heart. They are never afraid they can not succeed in business; they don't become sad and discouraged; they are always polite and pleasant in the company of ladies, and look you and them right in the face—none of your down cast looks or any other meanness about them. Ido not mean those who keep the organs infla ted by running to excess. These will not only rain their constitutions, but also those they do business witlfor for. How many men, from badly cured diseases, from the effects of self-abuse and excesses, have brought about that state of weakness in those organs that has reduced the general system so much as to induce almostevery other disease— idiocy, lunacy, paralysis, spinaLaffeetions, sui cide, and almost every other form of disease which humanity is heir to, and the real cause of the trouble scarcely ever suspected, and have doctored for all but the right one.
